Insurance is higher on Solara than G35 Coupe?!

Insurance is higher on Solara than G35 Coupe?!

I just called my insurance company for insurance quotes on a few different cars

I asked for a 2003 Infiniti G35 coupe and a 2003 Toyota Solara SEV6, and a few other cars.

She pulled a higher number for the Solara. Since Infinitis have alarm standard, I asked her to put the standard alarm and engine immobilizer on the Solara and it still came out a little more than the Infiniti.

The lady was like "How is the G35 coupe less than a Camry??"

I'm pretty dumbstruck too, but I thought thats something I would share.

She must have added the discounts already. I called my own insurance company for a quote so they already have my info, and did do a discount for the alarm system on the Solara, so she must have been applying the discounts.

2003 Solara SEV6 kicked me up $380 from my current, $330 with alarm.

2003 Infinti G35 Coupe kicked me up about $305

...age, dmv record, location, multi-car discounts, driver training, deductibles............even - I understand - credit rating.....

..all these impinge on your premium.

..SE-V6 5-stick = $450 keep on trucking: more quotes..per Plato :o

And it shows up as a camry on the insurance. Credit rating shouldnt matter since im already a policy holder (under parents) so it should be constant for the new quote.

Transmission and car color dont matter either.

Seems all that matters (for the car, not the individual) is year, model, trim, body style, engine, and safety and antitheft equipment.

Maybe its because Camrys keep showing up in the most stolen list.

My Solara is pretty cheap to insure, less than I thought it would be. My dad just got an Acura CL type-s and it's way more than my car and he's 60 years old.

See I don't buy that though. If you look at the most stolen cars in terms of total amount, the best selling cars are always at the top of the list. A more accurate measure would be to compare percent stolen by dividing stolen by total sold.

As i'm sure you know, insurance in NJ is so screwed up. When I got my camry, they wanted to raise my insurance $1500 - I was already an insured driver on my solara. It didn't make sense. I was going to be driving a 5k car for most of the time. We got a few different quotes and it ended up saving me $400/year

If you feel like wasting a day, call around and find out other quotes - AAA turned out to be the cheapest for us.
