TWM Shifter Install question

TWM Shifter Install question

Postby saxophonoia » Wed Jun 08, 2005 10:36 pm

I didn't see this listed in detail in any tutorials. The plastic piece that you have to pry up after you tap the side bolt out, how do you get it all the way off so you can get the shifter out? I see there's something allowing it to open up on the back that also holds it on. I can't figure out how to get it out or if there's another way. I can't see another way to get the shifter out without taking this off since the big joint won't fit through the top without removing it. Any input would be greatly appreciated so I can do this tomorrow after work.

what I did was took something small.. like a punch rod and made sure that I got it on the piece of metal holding that plastic in.. and carefully hammered that so it would slide out... You don't have another one of those so be careful.. basically slide it out

That must be a small punch rod. I couldn't find anything that would work. I'm thinking if I get a small flat head screwdriver and hammer it that I can get it through the other side enough to grab the end with some needle nose pliers and pull it out.

I used a drill bit, the end you stick into the drill, that had the same size diameter as the aluminum rod itself...

Got it installed. Much better than before. It doesn't feel like i'm going to pull my arm out when I go 4th to 5th anymore. :D Once I had the right sized bit to use it was easy as pie.
