I'm using the Optima yellow top (Deep Cycle)... The only down side to this battery is the lesser rating for cold cranking amps for those extreme winter starts... LOL

The first yellow top lasted 4.5 year on me... :P

I would say keep it as long as you can to save your $$$...

However, If your in the market for a new battery, just like cam2Xrunner says, the Stinger SP1000 or Odyssey PCJ1200MJT would be the ticket.

The only two down sides to the Optima's is the battery terminal's being located in the middle of the battery verse the stock terminals loacted by the corners. Second would be the height of the Optima. The Optima's sit to low in the battery tray to even benefit the factory battery brace to properly seat the battery (tie down to keep the BAT from siding/bouncing back and forth). :-? :-? :-?
So in order to have a sound install for the Optima the unit requires a .5" spacer (seated in the BAT tray)... Where as the the Stinger SP1000 or Odyssey PCJ1200MJT are a perfect fit.

Optima offers a battery for the solara that does not require you to move /modify your cables.. check out model # D35. I did have the raise the battery 1/2 inch but the terminals are plug and play.

I liek the red top and haven't had any problems with it.. i had the yellow top and i didn't like it..

I run my optima yellow top flawlessly for 2 years now and have a true 1400 wrms sub amp draw from it (even tho the alternator will probably only free up 800 w or maybe less for the amp to use).

I got mine there..

I bought the same battery. Like sto, until about a week ago, I was on the original battery from the new purchase in 2/99. Then after not ever having any trouble with it, 1 morning I went out and it was dead and wouldn't even take a charge. What did you do to hold down the Optima Red top? I went to stick it in the stock battery holder and the top hold-down bar wouldn't go down low enough to hold the battery. Fortunately, I bought this nice shiny billet battery hold down box that I used insted. 8) -JoeB

I used the Stock battery hold down. What i did was get 1/2 MDF wood and cut it to the size of the battery and then i spray painted it black. That way its not noticable. Then i placed it on the bottom to raise the battery up far enought for the tie down to fit snug...

When i get some time ill try to take some pics..
