Okay so this fairly old lady at my work place asked me today about a problem she had with her 01 camry. She had a check engine light that she brought to the dealer (which charged her $86.xx) to read the code and see what was up. Now the thing is she brought it to a shady dealer which ive had bad experiences with so i dont know if the info they gave her is even legit. I think it is but its a problem with the : "VSV for exaporation and charcoal cannister". I have no clue wat that means but she was quoted $625.41 to fix that. I told her i would see if i can get anymore info for her so any help would be appreciated. Do you guys think this sounds right to fix a valve? Any help is appreciated. this is a 01 Camry with a 20k miles on it and i think its a 4 cyl not sure tho. Thanx

I have no idea what you wrote means, but if its a 2001 Camry with only 20k miles on it I would bring it abck to the dealer (if she has the extended warranty) and get it checked out.

If the car is running fine and the light is just on, you can aslo disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes, then re-install the battery and then pump the brake 5 times and start the car (might turn off the check engine light.....learned that when I was working at my previous job).

....sorry I couldn't be of much help with you on what your asking but I think that your friend should get a second opinion from a trust worthy mechanic or dealership.....then from there see what happens and what needs to be done.

vsv is covered for 8 years 80k miles in california... she got boned LOL

vsv = emissions control ... just have it fixed before smog. there is no change in drivability ... except maybe SLIGHTLY shittier milage (losing 10 miles per tank?)

the charcoal cannister filters out hydrocarbons from the fuel tank
1GR-FE ftw!
