Traction Control

Traction Control

Postby Courtster » Wed Jun 15, 2005 10:13 am

Hey all, how can I tell if I have traction control installed on my 2000 Solara SLE? I'm guessing I do because it doesn't really let me squel tires any. If so, any easy way to disable it, or be able to toggle it on or off?

:n00b:
Man all Solara's have traction control.
The only way that some cars have traction control is that if they are rear wheel drive.
Like the Supra, and SUV and trucks.
All front wheel drive cars should have them automatically on.
Also why would you want to disable your traction control??
Unless you goin driftin' which is hard in FF car.

Yea, uh-huh all Solaras have it, yet only rear wheel drive cars can have it? Then I guess Toyota is lying when it says that TRAC is an option on all Solaras. Your not making any sence. Anyone else?

mine has a little TRAC button next to the shifter. a light should come on in your dash when you push it off.

The only other button on the shifter will be the gear release and the OD button.
Not sure about maunal.
If you gun it hard then you will lose some traction.
Unless you get a front diff like Greg then you won't ahve any traction problems.

If you have it, there's a button on the console under the ashtray that turns it off. I turn it off first thing when I start my car. Wish I could disable it. The last thing I need is my car cutting off the throttle when I'm pulling out in traffic just cuz the tires break loose a tiny bit.

I know gen4 camrys came with that optional. i recall the trac off options only available for somethign called "48" or 49 states..(i'm guessing this was with smog' controls but not sure). if you opted that '49 states' you had that option...AS is toyota emit very little, i've never seen another solara or camry with a trac button myself!

I've got traction control on my gen4 camry. And not all solaras/camrys have them. it is an option. most cannot squeel tires mainly because of the lack of power.

Traction control is optional and does not reduce the throttle. It functions through the anti-lock brake system to pulse the brakes to either or both drive wheels when there is a speed difference in relation to the other wheels.

Actually it does both. One function of traction control is the reduction of throttle input. The other function is to apply braking to the spinning wheel.

I've actually looked into this quite bit in the past. It was so annoying, I wanted to know exactly what was happening. I suspected it was mostly throttle control since, when TRAC is activated, pushing on the accelerator creates no response at all. If it was just braking, you'd feel the car trying to pull against the brakes. Instead, it more or less just goes dead on you, which can be pretty hairy when you're trying to pull out into fast traffic on a busy road.

.......wheelspin.........

Postby ezshift5 » Thu Jun 16, 2005 8:53 am

.......I can get next to what the hornet is saying........

.....manual shift and wheelspin (and I've been using a clutch almost all my life) are an easy twosome.........

..great car (but when the weight shifts aft - with all the torque - wheelspin is somewhat difficult to avoid....
2k SE-V6 manual shift (top two
are overdrives)... bigger tires...DWP...new off the showroom floor in
Placerville..(it thinks like a four: 25-27 around town; 30-33 on the freeway. Toyota, good!!!
