problem with aftermarket intake

I bought a cheap Ebay intake and installed it on my solara. Once installed the sound was greatly improved. BUT the idle was lowered and acceleration became very rough and jerky. Also, whenever I went over 4000rpm the motor felt like it was going to stall.

What could be the problem?

First thing, GET RID OF IT!!! Then, save up for the TRD drop-in or Injen short-ram. Just remember, with either one you won't feel any significant gains. You will just hear it GROWL! :P

If you love your Solara, you'll NEVER buy cheap azz parts for it!

the real reason i bought it is because i wanted the aluminum pipe. I have a 4 inch k&n cone filter. Im going to have the adapter welded onto the pipe and than the filter will fit. If that doesnt work i will put the box back on and buy an air hog or a k&n drop in.

Don't get rid of it yet. This thing is just a tube, connections and a filter. The problem is probably in the setup.

A couple questions / requests:

1) We need some pics of your current setup.

Here is the Injen IS2030P which is listed for your '99 Solara V-6. (Note the vacuum lines and EGR tube. If you're missing any of these, that would be a good place to start.)

2) Who manufactured it or is it homemade?

3) What diameter is the tube? (Especially at the MAF Sensor)

Yeah ma, what would you expect from ebay intake.
Save up for K&N drop in, better.
Or do custom intake.

This is probably a stupid question but im going to ask it anyways. What is a drop in? Is that just the filter you "drop in" the stock air box.

No dude, there is a lot of R&D that is required regarding intakes. If it was as easy as just putting tubes together, you would THINK AEM would make a CAI for us but they haven't.

Ok Ok listen to me since Im the one who fully experienced it.... Either 1) keep it in your car and sooner or later spend 1.000s of dollar getting your car repair, 2) Get a Drop in filter, 3)or cut the ebay pipe and rig it to the facotry, 4)or buy a real injen intake..

1)The ebay pipe is too big in diameter and the pipe is 100% a straigth pipe and toooo short.. Due to this the sensor can not read the air flow whichs crams a sh!t load of gas at wrong points and mixures which sooner or later ruins your injectors and engine. Trust me I know.

2)Drop in is the cheapest WORK AFFECTIVE way you can go. Nothing can compare to it and its cheap.

3)Be like me and a few guys and cut your pipe to run it with the factory intake. Helps reduce restrictions to the factory and add a drop in and you got your sefl a good cheap CAI. IT WORKS..(My current setup)

4)This is the proven power option to go. Cant go wrong and the pipe is the correct size and angle for the sensor to pick up the air flow.

Now, What do each one the the tubes that the are connected to the air intake do? I know what the mas air flow sensor does, but what about the large and small tube that go to head area and the lower tube?

The ebay intake even with all tubes attached does not increase performance. The pipe diameter needs to be 2.75 not 3 and the sensor needs to sit higher up. Sorry man you got scammed
