Ultimate Solara 2AZ Project
The 2AZ-FE... we've seen the potential of this engine when N/A (2AZ-GE) and in Turbo form (Scion Speed/other turbos). Now, it's time for the ultimate 2AZ project. The REAR WHEEL DRIVE CONVERSION!
We all thought it was impossible... there was no way to remount a transaxle mounted engine to a transmission... but it has been done.
Specs (retuned by Pontiac):
Engine:
Ecotec® 2.4L DOHC, 4-cylinder, SFI, aluminum (177 HP [132.0 kW] @ 6600 rpm, 166 lb-ft [224.1 N-m] @ 4800 rpm)
We know GM does not produce low budget DOHC cars. They have only begun to go from OHV to DOHC recently.
Transmission:
Aisin® 5-speed manual close-ratio
Aisin... is a Japanese transmission builder.

The 2AZ-FE (Toyota OR Pontiac spec) can be bolted onto the transmission being used in the Pontiac Solstice. The next Soltice (power will be upped) will feature either a bigger engine (doubtful) or a more powerful reincarnation of the AZ block engine.
If anyone wants a "man's project" for the Solara... this may be one to look into!
