Okay, proubably a dumb question but... When i break above 30 or 40 mph my car shakes violently. I know its proubably cuz i need a brake job but im just making sure. Is this the problem or is it somthing worse?

Sounds like warped rotors, a common problem. I am pretty sure they can be turned on a lathe if there is enough thickness left in the disc, which isnt that expensive to do. Replacing the rotor completely is another course of action. Ask the guy at the shop.

Yep its warped rotors. I would just replace them. Good excuse to buy some brembo rotors. They have two different sets that are sloted or drill and they are the oem size. Ill be doing that shortly.

Brembos would be a good choice but if you're on a budget just get the rotors resurfaced

Wait... The rotors are warped or is it the disks?

The rotors ARE the discs - just different terminology.

Can orginial slotted Brembo rotors warp? I heard that you can't turn slotted or drilled rotors true?

Yes they can definately warp, and I remember reading somewhere that drilled and/or slotted rotors warp easier than blanks due to differences in cooling rates along the disc surface. (or maybe it was rotor cracking, i forget...)

You are correct, drilled/slotted rotors CANNOT be resurfaced, they must be completely replaced.

Yes, ANY rotor is capable of warping. Cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors just resist warping because they dissapate heat better. Yes, cross-drilled rotors are prone to cracking in heavy braking conditions. However, I think a good alloy and chamfered holes minimizes that.

From what I've read, slotted and/or cross-drilled rotors can be turned. However, light cuts must be used to avoid damaging the bit on the lathe. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but each to his/her own.

I just recently replaced my pads and rotors. I have hawk compound front pads (quiet, gentle on rotors, low dust and still pretty good break performance), then some ceramic rear pads, and drilled brembo rotors. My old pads were half worn when i replaced them, what a diference all that made. I did it myself with and it was pretty easy.

Here is link to that topic.
