sometimes after i drive when i get out of the car, i notice a strong aroma of gas coming from the gas cap area. and this is always around when im less than quarter tank full.

Anyone have an idea as to why?!?

Serious replies only, no answers like the car is telling me to fill up :drinking:

Check the seal on your gas cap. It may dryed out and cap replacement necessary.

the charcoal canister may be dead. if the seal was broken, you'd have emissions codes p0442,446 pop up. The charcoal canister doesn't always throw codes. If it does throw codes, it's similar to the 2 listed

FYI: I've never seen a 'red' gas cap from toyota??
In Houston, to pass emmissions you need to replace you gas-cap every 7-8 years (at least thats been my exp - its not a hard and fast rule, but when you get to 7 year mark, they start testing gas-caps yearly). Eithercase, i'd like to see your red-cap in pics. Intresting...

Actualy it was quite the opposite... Where the red cap was a tighter fit that the OEM black cap. Now isn't that weird?
