I4 vs V6

Postby frohboy33 » Wed Jul 27, 2005 11:42 am

I got the 2az and I think it drives fine. When you get it into the power band in the higher RPM"S I think it pulls pretty good. I can definately tell when the A/C kicks in though. thanks for the replies, keep em coming.

Seems like common sense to me. If there wasn't a noticable difference between the V6 and I4, then there wouldn't be an engine option. We'd all have I4's and save some gas money.

Not trying to be an a$$ - I just call 'em like I see 'em.

And sorry to the guys that swear their 4 bangers are greater than the v6, LOL, unless you are Joseph or have a FI 4 banger, you AINT SHIIITTTT!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHA

I dont think anyone said that the i4 is better than the v6. I did see some people saying that the 2.4 i4 was adequate. I will say this...there are people running the 2az at 18 psi and running that little 2az scion tc in the 11's on a stock motor. Id say the 2az will prove to be pretty reliable

How much lighter if at all do you guys think the i4 solara is compared to the v6?? I have the i4 and on my title here in north dakota it says dry weight of 2920.

Thats what I read above...

Too bad that the people running those number on the 2az are not in Solaras...

The motors are the same with the exception of the exhaust manifold and the ecu. Im sure you will see a solara 2.4 running those numbers soon. :wink:

i wasn't dishing on v6's. i love my 1mz; but for daily commuting i have my 5s! I know celica dude's who got 250K miles easily on their 5s's (hence i got my solara since celica's went 1zz/2zz). the very fact that at my speedy driving, and a/c on i can still get 530-560 on a single fill up...I've yet to master that being conservative on my v6. They are both great engines...each has its own good points. its nice you think v6>i4 (i agree with you on the power band).

I am pretty sure that the 2AZ is the lightest option for the Solara, it's lighter than the 5S and the 5S is lighter than the 1MZ, but there is not enough of a difference to offset the difference in power and torque.

From Edmunds:
2003 2AZ-FE --> 3075
2000 5S-FE --> 3120
2003 1MZ-FE --> 3241

Power to weight (what really matters):

2003 2AZ-FE --> 19.3lbs per pony
2000 5S-FE --> 22.2lbs per pony
2003 1MZ-FE --> 16.2lbs per pony
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I wanted to buy v6 but i couldn't afford it while i was buying the car. Then i just happen had many opptunities to make extra cashes and I was planning to use those money to get a motocycle. But i saw many sh1ts happened and i decided to add the turbo to my car.

2AZ is known as reliable motor with good performance, so i would just just keep drive it till it blow. then decide if you want to swap or build the 2az.

maybe like an 11.99999 if yur really lucky. and a 1mz on 18 psi would put you deep into the 10's im sure. we will all find out soon enough.

The tuning of the 2az has only begun. There is a built stroked 2.6 2az with 700+ horses already. Think thats good for a better than 11.99999 pass??? :roll:

I know this is a bit off topic, but have you guys drove a v6 camry vs. a v6 solara? When i was in the process of buying a new car. I test drove a 99 SLE auto (which i almost bought). And then I test drove a 97 v6 camry with a 5spd. I test drove it to see what it would be like to have a manual solara with a v6 (never knew I would actually find one). Man did that camry lay down the power. Those tires seemed break loose a lot easier than my v6 solara. Have you guys ever noticed that?
