Laggy Laggy solara...

i'm not sure if any of you guys have experienced this before, but i thought i would post it here for your comments and ideas..

since i put the s/c in at 70k its been running like a champ! i run 5.5 psi, apex safc-2, (yet to be tuned) jim's fuel upgrade, and some other minor modificatiions. 30k miles later, (after my 90k tuneup) the car has begun lagging like hell in second gear and up (i'm AT btw).

1st gear is peppy and quick as usual, but when the tranny shifts into 2nd, with my foot slammed on the gas pedal, the rpm will suddenly drop more than usual, the s/c whining sounds seems to get really quiet, and the car accelerates as if i was barely tapping the gas. i can still get around and reach high speeds, the car doesnt make any funny sounds besides the loss of the s/c..only thing i HAVEN"T done that i think i should have is:

1.) replace my spark plugs with some new ik22's (last set went in w/the s/c @ 70k)
2.) spark plug wires?

anyways..let me know what you guys think..or if this is related to the forced induction seciton i will move it over there. thanks guys.

I kinda had the same problem 2 months ago... I ended up replacing the PCV valve in the back under the blower. It turned out that the valve was gummed up. Give that a shot. It is a pretty cheep ($2.99) alternative that is mostly forgotten in yearly service intervals. Give that a shot Bro. :) :drinking:

i read up a bit on knock sensor issues but shouldn't boost be cut and the car in general be laggy everywhere? i will try to look around the s/c for any buildup to clean up..any other ideas?

i am afraid of a blown knock sensor..is this the correct symptoms?

if you have a blown knock sensor, then your CEL would be on.

While I do agree, there is always the remote possibility that the CEL light is blown or it just isn't tripping. When the car is on but not started, does the CEL come on? It should

I have the exact same symptoms with my blown knock sensor. 1st and 2nd are great, but once i'm cruising on the highway, my car is a dog

Call your local Toyota/Lexus dealerships and ask the techs... my dealership is great, the techs always help me out doing my own repairs and diagnosing the problems before replacing the parts. Probably a rare thing to have such a good dealership but asking around never hurts :).
