But is there ANYONE or someone that has a friend that would like to buy an 1984 Toyota Corolla SR-5 with a GT-S motor and rear end conversion? My friend is trying to sell his and I would really like for him to get rid of it.

I'll post more info if anyone is willing.

I'm no expert on AE86's, but they are becoming quite popular and valuable. (This is growing with the sport of drifting.)

Here's an article on the AE86. (Sorry about the dead link text)

Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno
[Categories: Rear wheel drive vehicles, Toyota vehicles]

The 1983–1987 (Click link for more info and facts about Toyota) Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno, also known as the "Hachi-Roku" (Eight-Six, from the Japanese hachi for eight and roku for six), is a car made famous by the hit (Any of various resins or oleoresins) anime series (Click link for more info and facts about Initial D) Initial D. Before that, it was known among (A constitutional monarchy occupying the Japanese Archipelago; a world leader in electronics and automobile manufacture and ship building) Japanese (4-wheeled motor vehicle; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine) car enthusiasts as a car that offered great handling and maneuverability for a relatively low price. Closely related to the Sprinter Trueno is the AE86 Corolla Levin. The Levin is distinguished primarily by its fixed headlights in contrast to the Sprinter's popups.

The 2-door coupe and 3-door hatchback AE86 Sprinter Trueno and its almost identical Corolla Levin brother were the last rear wheel drive ( (Click link for more info and facts about RWD) RWD) members of the (Click link for more info and facts about Corolla and Sprinter family of cars) Corolla and Sprinter family of cars (also some of the last the lightweight rear wheel drives). Their AE82 Corolla (A car that is closed and that has front and rear seats and two or four doors) sedan counterparts were already being built as front wheel drive ( (Click link for more info and facts about FWD) FWD) cars. The rear drive configuration, combined with the Trueno's light weight (~2300lb curb weight), great balance and relatively powerful (and easy to tune) 4A-GEU engine made it popular among the (A constitutional monarchy occupying the Japanese Archipelago; a world leader in electronics and automobile manufacture and ship building) Japanese hashiriya street racers, many of whom raced in the (The location in a range of mountains of a geological formation that is lower than the surrounding peaks) mountain passes where the corners suited the Trueno best, especially on the downhill. Among those who utilized this amazing car was Japanese racing legend (Click link for more info and facts about Keiichi Tsuchiya) Keiichi Tsuchiya, also known as the Dori-King (drift king). Tsuchiya helped popularize the sport of (Aimless wandering from place to place) drifting, which involves taking a car on a set of controlled slides through corners. The AE86's (Click link for more info and facts about RWD) RWD configuration made it well suited to this kind of cornering and up to this day the car is a mainstay of drift shows/competitions.

The Hachi-Roku has now been immortalized by (Click link for more info and facts about manga) manga artist (Click link for more info and facts about Shuichi Shigeno) Shuichi Shigeno (しげの秀一) in the hit (Click link for more info and facts about manga) manga/ (Any of various resins or oleoresins) anime series (Click link for more info and facts about Initial D) Initial D, this in turn has led to a resurgence of interest in this car. This rise in the popularity of the AE86 Trueno has led to a growth in its demand and a subsequent rise in its resale value. What was once a car that was overlooked by many in the US and abroad (during a time when power and 1/4 mile times were focused on, more than cornering ability and balance) is now a hot commodity among auto-enthusiasts.
Nowadays the AE86 even gained attention from Western video game publishers, as this car was included by (Click link for more info and facts about Electronic Arts) Electronic Arts's (Click link for more info and facts about Need for Speed Underground 2) Need for Speed Underground 2 (although under the American name Corolla GTS). And wise (Click link for more info and facts about Gran Turismo) Gran Turismo racers know that the Sprinter is one of the best early cars to acquire, given its speed and maneuverability.

More than a decade and a half from when the last of its kind rolled off the production line, the AE86 Sprinter Trueno is finally being recognized for its true value. Considered by many as one of (A constitutional monarchy occupying the Japanese Archipelago; a world leader in electronics and automobile manufacture and ship building) Japan's best cornering machines (along with (Click link for more info and facts about Mazda) Mazda's FC3 and FD3 (Click link for more info and facts about RX-7) RX-7s and (Click link for more info and facts about Honda) Honda's (Click link for more info and facts about S2000) S2000), the Hachi-Roku truly is, alongside cars like the (The seventh month of the civil year; the first month of the ecclesiastic year (in March and April)) Nissan (Click link for more info and facts about Skyline GT-R) Skyline GT-R, (Click link for more info and facts about Mitsubishi) Mitsubishi (Click link for more info and facts about Lancer Evolution) Lancer Evolution, etc. a true (A constitutional monarchy occupying the Japanese Archipelago; a world leader in electronics and automobile manufacture and ship building) Japanese legend.

$2500 or OBO

But in reality, he is really not trying to aim this high. Just put it out there for shits and giggles.

Plus, we also posted this on Club4AG, and we all know there are little posers on there that are willing to pay un-holy amounts of money for a Corolla.

Tell your friend to hold on to it, I heard Fast and the Furious 3 is going to be filmed in Japan..with 'driftin' being the main emphasis..and ae86 is going to be part of the lead cars! when/if that comes out..the car will be worth more then (just cus of ricers) than now!

This is very true. There are a lot of A/M parts out there for this car right now. I'd expect as demand goes up, the prices will too. I'd fix it up and get ready to sell it when F&F3 comes out.

We've already seen Initial D being made into a feature film. I'd expect once that gets dubbed into "Chinglesh", demand will spike for it.

And you thought no one would be interested.

The movie isn't supposed to be coming out for like another year I think. And on top of that, I read about the plotline and it's kinda corny.

It just better have more drift action and less talk

Remember, SR-5 was the high end trim in the 80s =P It must have... manual windows... =P

Coupe, Hatch, Sedan would be another question to throw in.

I don't mean to offend but I wouldn't buy the AE86 because it is just too old. Sure it is a great chassis and it is good for drifting but I would have to spend a lot of money to hook it up and make it really perform.

For $2500, I could buy some other cars, a mustang 5.0

It's a hatch. You, too, can be like Takumi :drinking:

And read my second post Somedude, my friend and I know that no SANE person would shell out $2500 for an '84 AE86.

BUT, there's always that little douchebag that has watched way too much Initial D and thinks that the AE86 is THE (emphasis on THE) car.

yea I read your second post, I am just saying that there is no way I am going to pay 2500 dollars for something that is almost twenty years old.

Little more info: The only thing really wrong with the car is the differential. It had a TRD 2-way LSD, but it broke at Drift Day 26 a few weeks ago. The open differential still works, however.

For a car almost 20 years old, the body looks pretty good. I think your friend will definately get his asking price, if not more. He should post it on Toyota Nation if he hasn't done so already along with ebay if you wanna deal with auction fees and all that other garbage they throw in there.

I'd consider it if I wasn't on the other side of the U.S.
