Alarm supposed to beep?

Alarm supposed to beep?

Postby trioptimum » Sat Aug 06, 2005 6:40 pm

Hey guys; I was just told by the parts guy at my dealership that when I arm/disarm my stock alarm on my 99 Solara SLE V6, it should beep like the Carmy/Avalon does. Mine doesn't beep at all, the lights just flash.

Is this true and is there a problem, or does this year Solara not beep? If it's a malfunction where should I start checking?

Thanks peeps.

It doesn't beep because it doesn't have an alarm, just keyless entry (unless an aftermarket one has been installed). It has a theft deterrent system, but all that involves is an encoded chip in the key that must be read by the ECU for the car to start. I've got a 99 SLE and this was a question of mine for a while. It still bothers me that I have to look at the turn signals to know that it's locking.

So if someone were to slimjim the door open or break a window an alarm wouldn't go off? I've got plenty of electronics on the dash (TomTom GO GPS, Escort radar, iPod, Alpine HU) so I freaking NEED an alarm :(.

Other people living around me have had their cars broken into monthly here (I've got a garage and a dog at home so I'm safe there, but in parking lots in the city and at school, that scares me).

Thanks for the info.

Mine has the factory alarm and it sounds like yours does too. I believe there is a way for the dealer to set the remote unlock to beep. Here's some partial info on the alarm system.
1. THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM
When the system is set to the theft deterrent mode and any of
the following conditions are met, the system sounds the horns
and flashes the headlights and the taillights for approx. 1 minute.
At the same time the system locks all doors (If all door are not
locked at once, the system repeats door locking operation every
0.55 seconds during the one minute alarm time).
There are 2 modes in this system, which are active mode and
passive mode.
All initial setting are performed in active mode. It can be
switched to passive mode by specified operation. (See step 4.
CHANGING METHOD OF PASSIVE MODE)
Condition:
Any of the doors (Including the engine hood and luggage
compartment door) is unlocked or opened without the
key. *1
The battery terminal is disconnected and reconnected.
The system receives panic signal from remote keyless
entry. *2
*1: Only active arming mode.
*2: When the ignition key is not inserted in the key cylinder.
There are 4 conditions in this system which are disarming
condition, disarming preparation condition, arming condition
and alarming condition.

Sorry to recoup this old thread...but this above statement is wrong.

I've got OEM keyless entry and my car beeps. (no alarm, i've done the door test to see if its an alarm or keyless entry).

On a side note, my camry's got an alarm and it doesn't beed (yes, the car test there proved its got an alarm).
