Crutchfield has some great articles describing the benefits of having a crossover installed between your headunit and your amplifiers.

I have a set of F-mod passive crossovers for sale. I purchased these from Crutchfield for $30. I recently parted out the sound system in my Solara and these would be a GREAT, CHEAP upgrade for anyone with a premium sound system in their car. I have the 70 Hz - High Pass filter version used for my front Left and Right channels. I will sell these for $20 plus shipping. Save on shipping fees with local pickup. I am in the Santa Monica/UCLA area.
