White face gauges.........

White face gauges.........

Postby SleeperSolara » Sun Aug 28, 2005 5:51 pm

Well i have just bought some Ebay white face gauges from NexTech.
Well i was tryin' to wire up the gauges, but the only problem is that, i would wire the switch up.
All that came wit he gauges was of course the gauges, and a switch and an inverter.
Well on the the inverter there are some wires that come out; 1 for the gauges to plug in; the second are 2 wires 1 black and 1 red of course that is the power and neg wires.
Then is a wire that plugs to the switch they gave me.
Well i really don't want to use their switch that they gave me.
I was to use that one wire taht plugs into the switch they gave me to my gauges when i turn them on.
The switch i'm talkin' is about is the 1 that turns on your stock gauge lights.
Well i want to wire my new white face gauges to the switch that turns on the "taillights".
I found out which wires it is to turn on the "taillights" and the instrument gauges.
The wires to turn on the instrutment panel is "14 & 16".
Can someone help me.
Thanks.

what I did w\ my gauges was just hooked the new gauges up indepentally from the origional knob... I just hooked the power up to a wire similer to the ignition wire so that the gauges were only on when the headlights were on... then I just had 2 toggle switches to dim the gauges... I dunno why you would want to hook them up to a switch for when the taillights went on..

further explaination might help also
Parting out my car!!! great upgrades for sale!

Tail lights like when you brake? Or tail lights when you have youar parking lights or headlights on?

If your talking about that, then hooking the red wire to the green with silver stripe wire does that exactly. Just leave the switch there, but attach it inside the dash. The gauges will turn on when your "taillights" are on...since when your taillights are on, your regular guages are also on. Its the same wire.

Yeah i meant the instrument panel.
The wires to that are green wit silver stripe i think and the other is black wit white stripe.
So i would just plug in the red power wire from the gauges to the green one and the black to the black one.
But it don't work that way i think.
When i have a 9 volt plugged to the gauges you have another wire wit prongs on it that plug to the switch they gave me.

Sorry for the confusion, pops was naggin' me.

Black should get grounded to the bolt behind the cluster.
I'm confused at this point too. 9V? so you have another powersource for the gauges?

No i was usin' a 9 volt battery to supply the power to the gauges.
How would i wire the gauges wit out usin' the switch they gave me.
Remember that there is a wire that plugs into the switch they gave me.
I know to use the red wire and black wire to power and ground.

Yea I think thats how everyone has it wired. I still dont get how the 9v falls into the equation.

Leave the switch in the circuit, just leave it on and put it inside the dash.

The green/silver wire already turns on with the dash. Youll never have to touch the switch it came with.
