Slotted rotors wear and tear vs. drilled rotors

Postby Solorange » Mon Aug 29, 2005 8:54 pm

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and I was telling him i wanted to buy brembo slotted rotors. He was telling me that if you get slotted rotors it wears the pads out quicker because the sharp edges in the slots cut into the pads. He was saying the drill rotors have countersinks in them so they dont cut into the pads. This seems to make sense. But I was wondering what your experiences are.

He is right BUT the drilled ones are prone to crack easier than the others. . . Listed from most durable to least durable. . . blanks, slotted, drilled slotted, drilled

I have the ebc slotted dimpled rotors with the TRD brake pads. The rotors killed the TRD pads in about 13k miles.

TRD brake pads melt like butter regardless what rotors you use.

Mole's got that right.

I had a couple pairs of the TRD HP pads. They were kind of smushy when you got aggressive on them. It really did help when you were running slotted rotors. At the time I was running Power Slot rotors in all 4 corners. Those discs were like anchors and they chewed up those TRD pads like mozzarella cheese. They definitely weight more than the stock disc. :-?

IMHO, the Hawk HPS are my favorite. They are reasonably priced and they have a good service life with bite. And the best thing is that they have lower carbon content (meaning low brake dust). Instead of the black dust, you'll end up with grey dust. Oh yah, by the way, the Brembo's plain OEM replacements (rust like a MOFO cosmetic corrosion) are lighter than the Power Slot and stock rotors. Hope this info helps out Bro.

i recommend EBC Green.

i've tried TRD, EBC Green , EBC Red and now on Porterfield.

Porterfield are bang for the buck, but if you want bite, go for EBC green.

EBC Red dusts like crazy.

And upgrade your lines.

I had a pair of Satisfied pads before (not the ones you have listed).... However, the pads were like the TRD HP's. IMHO, they were a little spongy when they got too warm (super spirited driving conditions). 8)

i did it myself and it really wasnt that hard. If you know how to change pads and bleed brakes, then youll know what to do with changing brake lines.

BTW, I race on the track and the blanks are your best bet for reliability. They never warp and you can resurface them for more track fun if they do warp. I've got the fatter 13inch supra brembo blanks and they feel great.
