Stock Tire Shelf Life

Okay, first off... I searched. Nothing of use.

2002 SE V6, stock tires, and I'm at 40,000 miles. How long should I reasonably expect them to last (more accurately, how long do I have to save up for tires and rims)?

It really depends how much you abuse the tires. I live not too far from you and we know texas is darn hot like crazy... past few days ago 100 and up only. Heat can wear the tires down too. My car has about 80K miles on it. I had the stock tires on it up until 70K before I went onto new rims. When I took my stock rims and tire off I still had quite a bit of thread life left and I peel off allot durning the summer.. So can last you up to a long while... I say if your tires look bald or when you drive in the rain and you feel like the car cant grip in the rain..get new tires.. Thats what I did at 70ish K miles

look at the tread depth.. you don't want the tread to get too low.. once it all starts to run together its past due to replace the tires..

Lincoln head side on the penny is what you use..My new tires grip nice in the rain. I feel safe going at 60+ on the highway in the rain. Specially behind dam 18 wheelers.

And SC V6 is right..

If you cant see the tip of his head, then its useable.
If you can see his entire head, get new tires.

Its called the "lincoln's head test"

Those stock tires will last you a very long time, especially if you drive conservatively. Its a hard compound which is why it is pretty bad at actual grip.
