Is that number read from the gauge display? Seems hard to believe you can get that from only 50% highway with a V6 when the rest of us get that only when going 100% highway and driving very conservatively on cruise control. You're using really special gas it seems.

Since day 1, ive been using Mobile super premium in the car. I pull the number off of the display. Each time I fill it, I reset it down to zero. I though it seemed high too, but I figured it on my own- took the starting odo miles and the ending odo miles, divided that number by the total number of gallons, and got the same. Car is an 04 with 8,000 miles
It hardly gets driven because it doesnt start 99% of the time I go to drive it. grr

Ha ha ha. It has major starting issues that are electrical related and Toyota refuses to do anything about it. Toyota customer service wont do anything about it, and the dealership wont do anything about it. They dont know where to start looking for the problem. They claim that there are no codes in the computer, so they think that no problem exists. I was at my girl's house last night, parked in the driveway, car wouldnt start. Sat there all night, then started. Its soooooooooo frustrating. It has been to 4 different Toyota dealerships in wisconsin for repair. One of them is the dealership the car was purchased from, the other 3 know about the problem and received calls from the service mgr at my purchasing dealership and told them I am "fabricating a problem". I hope it stalls in the middle of the road and gets hit hard- then I'll own a toyota dealership.

I have seen others post about this dangerous non-starting problem. Someone said it was the key (diode connection was intermittent.) Someone else posted and said they had had the key replaced 3 times and still the problem persists.
Perhaps you could search for those posts and see what the owners have done about it. Totally sucks.
Anyway, it is a common enough problem that the dealer should know about it. Maybe they do and are just stonewalling you.

yea V6 V6 V6!!!

I think it hasnt been stressed enough (maybe for you) but you really should get the car you want with whatever options you want in there. In the long end, you'll be happier and wont be beating yourself for it. When my bf bought his car, he just went for the most convenient and cheapest car he can find around. Now he's beating himself for it and always wants to drive my solara. When I was shopping for my car I was really determined to get a nice V6 solara, so I waited until I got mine, which is the love of my life (other than my bf of course lol)

So yea, please consider carefully what will make you happy. Life's not short, but stuff does happen.

PS leather's not terribly bad, its nice to sit on and feels better than cloth. DOwnside is that you gotta take care of it so it dont crack or else it'll look reallly really ugly

Well, it seems to me the transaction is forthcoming, if not already done. What is the verdict? We've all been chiming in. What is your final decision? Whatever it is, I know you will be way happy (unless you get the I4... okay, I'll shut up now.) :D

Best of luck and looking forward to your posts on the new ride. :bday:

No Start

Postby FLUXEMAG » Fri Sep 02, 2005 11:31 am

STUFF THAT MAKES A CAR START SOMETIMES/NOT ALWAYS
RF Electronic car key doesn't work
Battery not enough juice for starter to start with cold or hot days
ECM malfunctioning
Starter motor is corroded on the contact plate for going through a deep puddle
You have an automatic tranny and it doesn't trigger the Park position on the stick
Fuel pump is broken from running it down to E and putting in 10 bucks habitually in hot weather

The dealer would have known about the battery.

If it were the fuel pump the engine would turn but never fire up

The stick position you can try on your own, just move it back and forth between attempts when you get into that situation.

The starter issue would make a loud click or smacking noise when you turn the key and it fails to start.

The ECM and key you just have to replace and wait to see...unless you have the right testing equipment (which the dealer does not).
