High Octane Boosters

Would it ruin the catalytic converter or is there any damage done to the at all when i put it in my tank? I know it innocently says on the bottle: "Will not damage any catalytic converters" but that's not what mechanic says..

I personally dont think its worth the money on those. They dont really work to me with all the ones Ive tried. If it was good then it would be on news and magazines already... But thats just my opinion. It wont ruin the converter though.. Takes allot to hurt it.. Like ALLOT.. One small bottle is just like paying for extra for a small amount of 93 octane fuel is what it feels like to me with some cleaner in it..

Are you running a boosted engine? High compression one? If not, then octane boosters are over kill for you. It doesn't give power. It gives safety ignition for high power engines. This is the common misunderstanding about octane boosters. Just because it runs high power engines, doesn't make yours a high power one when you fill it up. It's quite the opposite, high power engines need it to avoid knocking or detonation.

I don't think i have any special engine, it's a regular engine came from the factory etc. So i guess those Hich Octane Boosters are pretty pointless for me..

^^^ yep. . . and those little bottles idealy only give you a boost of like 1 point in octane if you're lucky

I tried a some from Lucas, and I did notice a slight improvement in performance... but right after that tank of gas, I got a P0135 CEL code. Bah.

I've got that code P0135, im trying to see if its a wiring problem. ill let you know if its just some wiring problem

I run 87 on my engine, no point running any higher unless it's boosted.

it just make your car runs more rich becuase more fuel are unburn. the higher the octane number the harder to burn, therefore it can prevent detonation. Some people feel their performance is improve because less detonation result in better timing.

If you want to run anything through your engine to add some performance get a bottle of RxP. It cleans out your EGR valve and mops up the carbon deposits in your cylinders. I've pulled the heads of some engines and found as much as a teaspoon of carbon just sitting on the pistons. Also, I used it on my Mustang to get it to pass emissions in Texas. I had high performance catalytic convertors that would pass fine when I first got them. But then they made some testing a tad more stringent for my car and it failed. I said , "oh, okay then I'll be right back." Threw in some RXP on a full tank of gas and drove around for about 45 minutes and then came back and passed with flying colors.
