Don't know, the book said change timing belt after 65/70k, so i changed mine recently with the water pump, cost me like 400 bucks for all i remember... Also changed the transmission oil just to be sure everything runs smooth, don't quite remember how much that cost me. :o

I just changed the timing belt and water pump yesterday on my 99 Solara with the 5S-FE...now there is no spark. The water pump was absolutely destroyed! Everything went smoothly, it took about 4 hours to change everything. I thought I timed everything correctly. I pulled the valve cover and set the #1 piston at 0 degrees (TDC) and the intake valves are completely closed and the exhuast valves are getting ready to open, which makes sense. I tested the resistance on both coils and they are both right around 13.63-13.7 KOhms (I don't know if that is in spec or not, but it seems to be right). The only thing I can think of is if something happened to the crank angle sensor that would not allow the egnine to get spark. The engine turns over and the cylinders will flood but there is absolutely no spark....Any ideas?
TIA

Thanks!
I'm a lil worried it messed up a sensor...when I popped the timing cover the ball bearings from the water pump, some metal shavings and a big chunk of the water pump pulley fell out. I am worried that they may have done some damage while they floated around in there.
Is there a good way to get the CEL codes? Is there a good way to test the output from a cam sensor or the CAS?

a scan tool will tell the voltage of the sensor as well as check the codes

Is there a way to check them without the scan tool, like with a voltmeter? On my Nissans there's a way to check the CEL by pushing a button on the ECU, is the Solara ECU similar?

no, you need a scan tool to read the code.. although you can go to Advanced Auto parts and they will pull the code for free... Im sure you can check w\ a voltmeter... but as far as specifics im not sure. im sure a chiltons manual says how to do that, but Im not around mine.. sorry

I called the 1-800 number Toyota has to get the FSM for the car and they wanted $289.70 for all 3 books, so I'm gonna pick up the Chilton's manual this afternoon and hopefully it'll have that procedure. Thanks!
