Keep getting P0330 code (knock sensor malfunction)

Keep getting P0330 code (knock sensor malfunction)

Postby nmatthis » Wed Sep 14, 2005 7:13 pm

I have a 99 Solara V6 with the supercharger at stock 4 psi boost and Denso IK22 spark plugs. I have about 53,500 miles on the spark plugs and I know I'm way overdue to replace them. I think they're supposed to only last 30k miles.

Recently I've been getting a check engine light and the code is P0330, malfunctioning knock sensor bank2. When the engine is coding P0330, it's sluggish but driveable. It runs this way until I've shut the engine off and restarted it a couple times. The the light turns off and the engine is fine. It's done this probably once every other day.

Since it never happens when I'm accelerating hard or anything, I'm I'm running at stock boost, I'm thinking that it's the bad spark plugs that are causing the code. Does this sound right?

I think because your spark plug over due and cause lots of miss fire and it killed your knock sensor. try to replace the spark plugs first, and if the error code still come out, then your knock sensor is out.

Once that happens you will need to replace your knock sensors.

Actually, I was mistaken about the description of the P0330 code. It doesn't mean a malfunctioning or busted knock sensor, it says "Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Malfunction". Still, I may replace it just to be safe. I'm already having to take the supercharger off to get to the spark plugs, so might as well replace the sensor too while it's off.

You will also need to take off the lower intake to replace the knock sensors. Remember to drain the coolant first.
