ACT Clutch - HEEEEEEELP!!

ACT Clutch - HEEEEEEELP!!

Postby that1mexguy » Mon Sep 26, 2005 12:26 pm

I purchased an ACT Clutch for my 99 Solara and the plan was to get it installed today. I dropped of the car this morning, and then the shop calls me to let me know that it is the wrong clutch. The part # is TY3-HDR6 and I called ACT and they assure me it fits but the shop assures me it won't fit. This is a reputable shop here in Atlanta too so I'm real puzzled as to believe them or not. Have any of you guys purchased this clutch and successfully installed it in your car? Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh man, that sucks. Didn't you buy if from RJ? Did you talk to RJ about it? I'm about to buy the same clutch, but I'm going to have them install it. I hope this works out.

Yes i did get it from RJ and yes i called him about it. He tells me I have the right part, I checked the ACT website and it shows I have the right part, but when I went to the shop they showed me how the disk and the bearing just dont go it. I seriously dont know what to do. I called ACT and they tell me the shop people dont know what tha heck they are doing, and the shop swears up and down the part is incorrect. I mean, i didnt take it an AAMCO's or anything like that. This is a reputable shop that has been around for some time and i know for a fact they know what they are doing. Most of the SELOC guys take their cars there, and I'm talking about high performance mods too, not just a simple intake or crap like that. This is a shop that was able to do an engine swap by putting an NSX engine inside a CRX, these guys have done a lot more custom work on Supra's, Lexuses, etc. so that tells me they know their stuff, right? The only 2 opts I have now are to either get a refund for the clutch and get something else or take it to another shop to see if they can get it in. Either way, i already got screwed $400 labor. What would you do man? Are you still going to get it? Because if you do and they get it in just fine, I want to know so i take it somewhere else and then come back to this shop and bitch them out.... man i am soooo frustrated right about now

Damn, that sucks!! I can't do it yet, because I don't have enough for the install. I don't think I'll be able to do it until next week...

It could be that a wrong part got put in the right box perhaps? Errors like this can happen. Although the shop you are referring to does not do a lot of work on Solara's.

I will give them this: When they installed springs/struts on my solara, and broke BOTH ABS sensors on the rear: they replaced both of them (as they should) for nuthin' And the last time I went in on a "funny noise" they fixed it for nuthin' as well.

P.S.: I'd even like to be slain by that NSX powered CRX, much less drive it!

About the Clutchmasters comment, I just cant find the part from them and I hear nothing but good reviews about CM. I do not see it listed on their site, or any other online businesses. Even looking under camry I dont even see the 3.0 1mzfe engine listed as an option. :(

5s is an engine term for 5s-fe (5s being the engine, fe being the head) just like the 1mz-fe (1mz engine fe head). He means that the act clutch he has installed on his 5s-fe engine is not very harsh. I do have a ACT clutch on my MR2 Turbo also (3s-gte engine/head) and it's pretty heavy. Although I'm putting around 350 to the wheels so I ordered a heavy one on purpose, looks like this

Good luck.

ah gotcha... well i've determined to contact RJ and get a refund on the part and then have the shop order the clutch and install it, that way if they have problems with it they can deal with the vendor/manufacturer themselves. So Astro, if you do get this part, I'd suggest to have them install it in case it does not fit they can take care of it.
