Installation of Clear Corners

Postby Guest » Tue Jan 07, 2003 9:35 pm

I just ordered Clear Corner Lenses for like 30 bucks (Pretty Sweet Deal) I planned on installing them myself, it seems easy enough. Is there anything I should know? I heard of problems with rain and condenstation...i'd appreciate it If you guys could help me out, thanx.

just get some silicon sealant and trace around the light.

all you have to do it pop the hood
take out the two screws from the inner corners of the light.
slide the lights out towards you
twist the light counter clockwise out
and then put everthing back together.

hopefully you won't have all the installation problems i had

lol..did i mention that light i couldn't screw in b/c the bracket was broken popped out on me when i went full speed over the speed bump in work b/c i was late? i was running into work (attempting to log into my phone by 9:00..b/c 9:01 is late! o no..lol  ) and ther's my clear corner lense dangling by the light on the bumper.

:-? Will I NEED to use the silicon sealant? Are the stock ones held on by Sealant or this just a suggestion? Thanx again...

the aftermarket clear corners arent air tight, using sealant hopefully will make them nice and dry inside so you dont get condensation :)

you don't HAVE to seal em..but you SHOULD. any silicon gel is fine i think..i used some junk (DAP..something like that) for aquariums. just be careful to make it look clean and neat..i didn't realize that you would see so much, so i wasn't as neat as i could be and had to clean it up a lot, but it looks fine now..silicon is pretty easy to clean up any excess.

let me put it this way..my friend got clear corners for her car and didn't seal em...granted, it's only like a $30 ebay special  but from the condensation, the silver/chrome part inside is dull now b/c the water ate away at it, so she has to buy new ones.

so you don't have to, but if you agree w/ "better safe than sorry" you might wanna :D (it takes less than 10mins..then you just have to let it dry..no biggie)

I got the lights in today and hope to install them over the weekend. I'm just interested if my stock ones are sealed on or not. I have some silicone sealant of some kind around my house that I think I will use, but I just wanted to know if the stock ones were already sealed...

The stock ones have a better fitment and when the factory glues the lense to the gray housing, they are just more water tight.

where do you seal the corner? do you seal the light itself or after its finished installing like around the edges?

ACtually, I got some black gooey stuff (I think its like an adhesive) from a guy I know that works at Ford, and he told me to put it all around the entire Unit, and around the socket for the bulb. I did so, and no problems so far, and they've been through snow and a minor heat wave with nothing wrong.

Hey Azn, apply the silicone with the lights off the car, all the way around, at the point were the clear lense joins the grey housing (they are glued together).
