fog lights problem

fog lights problem

Postby carrasco! » Wed Jan 08, 2003 9:46 pm

I have a 2001 solara v6 auto.
I bought it 6 months ago. When I bought it i noticed the fog lights did not work.Six months later I finally decide to look under the hood  and find the left fog lamp is unplugged!so i say great, problem solved.I plugged it back in and wow the lights turn on.I turned my car off and went inside and i noticed the fogs are still on. I thought i had forgotten to turn the thing off but to my horrer it was off.I believe the dealership new about it and simply unplugged the bulb .I have warranty left but I do not trust the dealership(payne motors of Brownsville texas. They sell ford, mercury&lincoln)I had to remove the fuse.Does anyone have an idea how to trouble shoot my problem. The fuse is good.

that's weird..they probably did know and purpously unplug it. did you ask them about it?

i have no clue, but the only thing i can think of it the fog light switch to turn em on or off. even then though, i leave my fogs on all the time and they automatically turn off when i turn the car off.

the previous owner probably rewired it so that the fogs can stay on... and did a bad job since it's on even if the switch is off... toyota set them to only be on with lowbeams. THey shouldn't be on while in the Off/DRL/Parking light positions (you won't have a DRL mode since it's pre 02).

cheese and pizza,

buying a toyota from a ford dealer . . . shame, shame shame.... or as Uncle Charlie would say, WHY, WHY WHY???

nevertheless, I agree with you and wouldn't return it to that Ford dealer since they don't have the knowhow to fix anything other than products that they specialize in!! Find your nearest Toyota dealer and have them check it. I suspect the previos bozo rewired it.

Nothing wrong with buying a toyota from any dealership...its a toyota! :D If you have warranty, is it toyota warranty (3 yr 36K miles) or is it extended warranty from the dealership?? If your have former..then take it to any toyota dealership and tell em' what happened...if its from the dealership..take it back...and tell them what you found out!

BTW: i've rewired my fog's in my celica...i've extrated the juice from the corner lights...so NOW it looks OEM, ie. i still use the button, and i don't need to turn the headlights to turn the fog's on..just the parking lights (corner lights)...so who ever did the fog rewire in your car..did a BAD job. Don't blame the mod...blame the person who modded it WRONG!
