Start Up Problem

Start Up Problem

Postby vairdasol » Wed Oct 19, 2005 11:47 pm

I notice sometimes when I start up my car it just clicks. Then I have to go from "P" to "1" to "P" again. I have been doing this only recently. What the heck am I doing wrong? I make sure to always turn off the car in "P".

Respectfully Submited,

Dave-O

Sounds like your Park/Neutral Safety switch is out of alignment. It's located on the transmission right next to where the shift cable attaches. To adjust it, just put the shifter in neutral, loosen the bolt and position the switch so that the groove on the shaft going into the transmission is aligned with the reference line on the switch and tighten the bolt.

Well, yesterday I switched out my key to my backup. I am thinking its the transponder key. Maybe it needs to be reprogrammed?

Probably an electrode/circuit/chip within your main key that's responding late, something with the ECU, or the park/neutral switch is loose and just happens to start with the backup in place, or probably even a fuse.
