Get an alarm system by DEI, don't settle for anything less.

Just don't get any cheap brands. . . any professional shops will tell you that the cheap brands may damage your ignition system. . . Just get DEI, Clifford, or Viper

DEI is the parent company of Clifford, Viper, Python and a few other smaller brands. Find one with the features you need and none of the ones you dont to get the best bang for the buck.

Get a DEI brand one, and pay the premium to get it at the store you get it installed in. I would recommend you don't get it off ebay and don't install it yourself. You will only get the full warrantee if you get it from the installer, and warrantee matters for stuff like this.

If you ask a shop to install an ebay-bought one, you will only be saving a few bucks in the end, since the majority of the installation price is the cost of installation, not the part itself.

:P SUP Bro,

I'd go for the DEI remote starter. The great thing about the unit is that it is operated by means of tact RPM readings and not the basis of a timer. This timer junk can be found on CodeAlarm. The DEI (Viper/ Black Widow/ Side Winder/ Clifford etc.) is much better. CodeAlarm has this flaw where the car would be started with the starter still grinding. Just from experience, it's junk. Definitely go with a extended range unit with HX offboard superheterodyne receiver for optimum range. You can almost fire up the car a half-mile away (depending on you elevation). The beauty of the DEI products is that most of them have a life time warranty and they use Molex connectors (the same crap used by the OEM wiring harness) with robust wiring and control modules. Here is some more info:

ONLY if you have a transponder (Engine immobilizer option from factory). If you dont, no need. Theres also an additional ~40 dollar interface part to put the key into I think you may need if you do have a transponder.

i could probably ship you an alarm from my work place. if you want the Clifford Matrix 3.5, our cost price here is about $200 + shipping. that unit comes with remote start and all the fixin's but only ONE LCD remote.

before you go buying an alarm over the counter anywhere however, ask the local installation shops in your area:

1. if they install alarms you bring in over the counter
2. will they give you warranty on the installation?

PM me for the wiring diagram if you plan to do a DIY job.

You guys have been a lot of help so today we stopped by Circuit City and we got a DEI remote start for $159 (including installation) but now they want to charge us for that other part so that the car wil start without the key, but they want to charge us $49, is it really that much? Now, bastards didnt call us til about 15 mins before closing to tell us we need that part and we dropped off the car almost 4 hrs before closing. I have to go back Wednesday when the manager is in the store because when we bought the part we asked them if that is all we needed and they said oh yeah, now it turns out the car needs that other part, so not only do we have to pay more, but we have to take time out of our schedule to go back to the store and blah blah.... the guy i talked to today said the best he can do is drop $10 off, should i go for that or try to squeeze a little more? what do you guys think.

If it's just a remote start system without keyless entry and alarm I'd just return the system and go to Best Buy.

yeah im trying to do that but now they are arguing that if i return it, i wont get the labor charge back... it's kinda shady i think because it sounds like they were just trying to do a sale without really knowing what tha heck and now i get to pay for their mistake/or lack of knowledge :-?
