For your enjoyment.

Pretty cool, if you've got the time and patience.

I think Radio Shack might have the board.

On a side note, it'll be MAD tight if you can get the auto climate just to be a different color PERIOD; I'd like my car to sport a bluish-white glow (e.g. the GS430) instead of spinach green, and there's only instructions with the stock radio and normal HVAC so far.

You can change the color of the AutoAC. If you can change the colors of the stock HU, then you'd follow the same procedure for the AutoAC controls. It's just replacing LED's.

All I've got are 5mm's too. I would rather use the ones he used, they're a lot smaller. I sent him a pm, hopefully he responds.

I'm thinking about making a whole bunch of these that just plug into the existing bulb plugs. Who's interested? I've been having problems finding the right led's tho. He says he's using #1206 led's tho if anybody knows.

If you just wanna see what it looks like without the hard work, just buy two #74 LEDs, one in red and one in blue. You pull off the main center console cover, pull off the three dials, unscrew the screws behind them, then unclip the front of the HVAC controls from the top. You can then see two bulbs. Switch them out for red on the hot side, and blue on the cold side. You should get the same "red to blue" effect without any modification.

I did this over a year ago, the only problem is that the far ends of the dials (Off on the fan, and defrost on the vent selector) are dim due to LEDs not dispersing light that well, but the center dial looks exactly the same as in that movie.

Another easier alternative, similar to what I did...

See the general shape of the circuit board? Cut that out of red transparency film and stick it to the back of the hvac panel. To avoid the "cold side" of the knob shining through purple, simply cut this part out. (Technically, the only place you need the transparency to cover is the fan settings, blower orientation and knob lights) Next, take the green condoms off the two stock bulbs, which are a different type than replacement #74's and way brighter. Put it back together and you will get the same results as the LED project (minus the color changing temp indicator), with much less work and much less money.
