ok so i bought this remote start unit back in march and i finally got aroudn to trying to install it today. i opened everything up and took a look at the factory alarm unit.

the first thing that surprised me was that there were at least about 15 wires connected to the unit, which was odd considering it was simply for keyless.

the next interesting thing i noticed was that some of these wires actually led to the ignition harness, including wires for the starter, ignition, and accessory.

and the MOST interesting part was taht there was an extra wire dangling down that very clearly had a tag attached to it reading something like 'upgrade module for remote start'.

so i was obviously shocked. if i can buy an extra module and connect it in and save myself the hassle of hunting and tapping wires for an entire aftermarket unit, i would much prefer to do that.

the part number on my factory alarm reads 00014-s0200

does anyone know whats going on?

Two reasons there your car was not wired with remote start.

1) The solara never came with Remote start as an option
2) You have a manual. Remote Start + Manual = Lawsuit.

Well, I don't know about keyless entry, but the stock alarm system DOES offer transponder-based immobilizer, and the door lock signal would be sent the power locks every 1-2 seconds if a door, trunk or hood is opened (tried and true), so I guess that the key runs through the security system, hence it running through the ignition, starter, etc.

As for remote start, I guess it offers it as an upgrade option and makes it easier for installers to integrate it into the car instead of having to get a bypass module for the immobilizer (if equipped).
