misread the gas stations' gage this morning and put 36psi in both front and 34 in the rear tires. car still handles pretty well though, and I kind of like it.

Is that safe? Do I need to bleed the tires to brind them down to 30-32psi?

36 sounds high. What size are your tires? Make sure you are using a quality gauge too. I made a post not too long ago about the inaccuracy of those cheap pen-style pressure gauges. The ones on the air hose at the gas station are usually even worse.

they're stock 205/65hr15 new tires. I know the all rubber bicycle tires w/ inner tubes are rated 60psi, so I suppose 36 for radial here aint gonna burst. I'll try it out for a few days.

unless any of you guys think it's not safe, then I'll bleed some of it out.

You should read the tire max psi rating.
Mine are 205/55/R16 and i put in 35-40 psi.
My tires max psi is 45.
So yeah you should read the max rating on your tires to see what psi you should put in there.

you are going to compare a mere bicycle tire with a car tire....

there is a max psi for a reason. play it safe with 32psi.

The psi rating is always on the tire. If you got stocks on, I think on your door sill there is a sticker that says how much is max inflation. But from what I can remember 45psi is max, I usually try to keep mine about 35- 40 range.

some people claim that increased psi equated to increased mpg's. I would still keep it safe (geesh, i assumed it was 31 and thats what i keep it at..i need to read the sticker more often)

Read it again in the morning before you go out to work or something, Not sure how warm your tires were running when you got to the gas station, but it might be at an OK pressure at cold psi in the morning. Remember, max ratings and recommended ratings are all at Cold PSI.

There is a mfg. recommendation and a max tire pressure. They are not the same. I had a retard in the shop a couple of weeks ago that tried to belligerently defend his stupidity of grossly (like 50psi) over-inflating the tires on his corolla with “the tire says....” bullcrap. I was a dick to him and told him how retarded he was. I was like uhhhhh Toyota says 28 psi is right, but if you want to blow out your tires and wreck I guess that's your business. Hmmm… I guess if a retard like that wipes himself out, that’s good for the human race :).

Anyway, like was said above, that’s a bit high, but you should be “safe” I usually run a few psi high too for the sake of slightly better fuel economy.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

36 is okay, but if you drive in the canyons or something for speed and fun, its gonna be a bouncy @$$ ride. The lower PSI you go is gonna be more grippy (not too low.. i.e.32). Average PSI should be like uh 34!

I usually keep my car's tires at 40 psi (all four tires).

Stock tires:

205/60R15: 29 PSI
205/60R16: 32 PSI

Me = 36PSI for 124 MPH for the late-night need for speed on H-rated tires.
