yup..there's a sensor..so even if you go thru a tunnel at night they come on temporarily.

i luv it b/c you really can't ever forget to turn your head lights on at night :D

plus, usually if you do turn them on, and then you don't turn them off at night, it will automatically turn off when you turn the car off = no dead batteries. although, be careful, b/c ocassionaly, the lights won't go off (i forget what causes it..something w/ the order you turn the car off and touch stuff in the car, i forget...but every now and then i'll forget to turn them off and then i see that my amber lights are still on as i'm getting out of the car)

i guess technically, you don't even have to bother w/ the headlights b/c they turn themselves off and on. (i still do just in case the rear lights don't come on or something)

missy i don't so cuz the 02 doesn't have the senor for it to turn on for you. reason is because on the 02 they have that knob where we could turn off your day time driving lights. so the 02 would have to turn it on manaully.

oppss..overlooked the "02" part :D

well now that's suckee suckee. i like that feature for stupid people like me who never turn them on or off. actually, before the solara i was really good w/ turning the lights on and off, i never left the lights on and needed a jump.

now, w/ the solara, wow...the only time i turn them on is when i need them on before they kick in..and the only time i turn them off is when i remember. :drinking:

so the 02 + models don't have that?

It doesn't suck so much... Just look at the gauge before you go, then you would remember.

I hate the sensor so much that I unplugged it  now I can turn off the yellowy headlights completely

I personally quite fancy that auto-on feature; best thing since sliced bread, though I'm not one of those goofballs that forget to turn them on. Having them disabled would be great for those with HIDs.

i leave my parking lights on all the time, and just let my sensor determine when the headlights go on.

well, except for in bad weather, or when driving through lots of shadowy/sun lit places (that just confuses the sensor). in those cases, i manually switch on the headlights.

I had a 2000 and the lights went on automatic, just picked up my 2003 yesterday and no automatic lights :( , but now i have heated seats, so i guess i can deal with the lights.

if you had the sensor, it wouldn't allow you to turn off your headlights (unless you did some rewiring), so maybe you could look at that as a plus.

is there a way to disable daytime running lights and still have the automatic on feature work?

Yes, it's called unplug the DRL plug underneath your hood, near the passenger side firewall.
