Auto Tranny Question

Auto Tranny Question

Postby drock03 » Fri Dec 02, 2005 5:56 pm

For some reason I've notice a little quirk in my tranny lately. When I shift from REVERSE to DRIVE I can feel the tranny click into gear, but there seems to be a slight hesitation before I can actually drive away. PARK to DRIVE there is no issue at all. Very instant response vs. the second or two wait. I'm probably hyping this up a lot more than it is after all it is a Toyota. Is there such think as a quirk with a toyota??? Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone else notices a time difference. If I shift to DRIVE from REVERSE and immediately hit the gas, it almost feels like it revs up a tiny bit before actually moving.

Oh yeah, I have an 00 with 38K on it...Tranny fluid changed at 30K and the level is right where it should be.

Thanks

I feel the samething too. . . Like when I try to rush and reverse quickly than put it into drive its like I press on the gas a little but doesnt go and than it suddenly starts going. . . I don't know whats wrong because I have been maintaining my transmission really well. . . I think it's just our tranny is like that

I think it's an issue with a lot of cars... At least it isn't a Lancer ES (loaner car I had to drive once... Took 4 seconds to shift into drive)

I can't say that I've noticed anything like but I'm probably making the surroundings are OK to proceed before hitting the gas.

I would imagine it would take a moment for the proper gearset to come into play.

I have had the same issue with my Solara transmission since the day I got it. I freaked out at first, thinking I had a bad tranny. But it is just how it works, I guess. I just wait a moment going from reverse to drive before pressing on the gas pedal. Apparently, it is a quirk with the auto trannies on Solaras.

not really toyota thingie, my camry doesn't do this, and my ES doesn't do this as well. However, my solara does this what you all describe (i think of it as delayed shifting...its like a second off from when i put it in a gear till when tranny catches up to what i choose). I bought my solara new, and i had this problem at 3500 miles, took it in for them to look at, and the toyota tech said it nothign upnormal, just wait a second after shifting before driving/reversing.

dont worry about this.....most cars do it....as long as its not taking a really long time i.e. more than 3 secs dont worry about ti......after all it is a automatic it has to go into gear........ cause your not putting it in to gear....does that make sense......
