Auto Tranny Question

another question...

Postby drock03 » Thu Dec 08, 2005 7:38 am

I'm used to driving a standard so that's why all the automatic questions....

The other thing I've noticed in the short time I've had this car and I don't know how well I'll be able to describe it....The tranny seems to shift a lot while accelerating at slower speeds... specifically, I notice this when I'm in a parking lot slowing down, then accelerating....car seems to down shift as I'm giving it gas after coasting at a slow speed (i.e. 5 or so mph) (maybe downshifts to 2nd gear?), then the trans shifts a few seconds later up to 3rd.

So basically I slow down (to take a turn etc.), give it gas at which time the car downshifts then within a few seconds upshifts. I've actually noticed this in an 02 Tundra as well....

Maybe I'm just not use to the way an auto works but does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Thanks

Mostly depends on speed and tach rpm lvl and since its usually street running. The tranny kinda gets a lil hiccup on wanting to shift up more into 2nd gear from 1st gear if its a stop n go. I recall there was a thread about the lil kickback of the upshift in stop n go traffic of the tranny wanting to shift to 2 from 1. 3rd Gear won't kick in until you're around 35-40mph at a normal speed up.

oh yes, lil edit.. The resolve was to shift into 2nd gear mode so you can avoid the odd shifting of the tranny in the traffic. Unless you wanna be like a fake manual driver like I do sometimes and shift into neutral then shift to drive once things are moving.
