Another Auto Tranny Question

Another Auto Tranny Question

Postby drock03 » Fri Dec 09, 2005 8:57 am

I'm used to driving a standard so that's why all the automatic questions....

The other thing I've noticed in the short time I've had this car and I don't know how well I'll be able to describe it....The tranny seems to shift a lot while accelerating at slower speeds... specifically, I notice this when I'm in a parking lot slowing down, then accelerating....car seems to down shift as I'm giving it gas after coasting at a slow speed (i.e. 5 or so mph) (maybe downshifts to 2nd gear?), then the trans shifts a few seconds later up to 3rd.

So basically I slow down (to take a turn etc.), give it gas at which time the car downshifts then within a few seconds upshifts. I've actually noticed this in an 02 Tundra as well....

I also notice this crawling in traffic on the highway

Maybe I'm just not use to the way an auto works but does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Thanks

That is normal an auto is set up to mimic how a manual should be driven to save gas when not being pushed

I guess it just seems like it shifts too much, but maybe that is how these cars are set up.
Thanks

I had gotten very used to all that auto stuff with my last car, and now that I have a manual I'll never go back. I've driven one auto car after only having my MT Solara for only a few weeks and it felt so weird.

Wish my car came in manual... But then again I'm kinda rusty since I haven't driven manual in 2 years (and I keep pulling out the clutch too fast when I drove my boss' husband's car last week, but that's a different story). Anyway, it's a typical attempt at being economical since autos already make the car consume more gas.
