Big Bore throttle bodies soon to be available for v6's

Postby trd4life » Sun Dec 11, 2005 2:56 pm

I have recently purchased 20 OEM throttle bodies which i will be sending out to be ported and polished. I expect a 3-4mm increase in size. Price has yet to be determined, i hope to be able to sell them to forum members for $200 shipped.

Here is what is done to the OEM throttle body.

First, the throttle bodies are dissasembled, that includes all the sensors and all moving parts. Then the throttle body is sand blasted with ultra fine sand. It is then cleaned and all sand is removed. The throttle body then goes to the lathe, where it is bored, then ported and finally polished. the opening of the throttle body gets a taper that begins at 6 degrees then 3 degrees. A new bigger butterfly is made out of brass. It is then carefully fitted to the throttle body. Once the proper seal is achieved the throttle body is reassembled. The throttle position sensor (TPS) is reinstalled using new screws and it is set to factory specs.

I will be doing a before and after Dyno on the "RedKnight" to see how much power is gained before i put them up for sale.

I'll keep you guys posted!

Gabe

Is this only for supercharged applications?

I wonder how much this will help a N/A engine...

I also wonder how well it will work in combination with CPE's MAF-ci system...

Gabe, how is this going to affect tuning your fuel map? I assume you don't have to dial the MAF down as much with bigger injectors. Hmm... more air, bigger injectors needed?

I'm on the floor if the kite's in the air.

(It's a clever(ly stupid) way of saying I'm down if it's functional to a noticable degree)

I doubt the helpfulness of this to an NA car, but it won't hurt anything, and like alwyas, I plan to be eventually boosted.

Paul, i am sure it will lean the car out a "little bit" on the top end for supercharged applications, i'll take care of that on the dyno if need be using the safc. I have been doing some thinking, in order for this mod to be more effective, it "may" require port matching the supercharger. I am going to see if there are any gains without port matching the s/c, then i'll port the s/c and see if there is any diff.

pics coming up soon!
