Is Your Gas Mileage This Bad?

Wzup All?
Lately I've been getting some awful mileage out of my Solara. I have a 18.5 gallon tank and I fill her with supreme since gas hasn't been too expensive. I do mostly highway driving and use the cruse control @ 70mph since I start work at 2:30am. I only recieve 240-260 on a full tank! :(
I know winter gas is not the greatest but I would think that I would see better numbers than this! I also use 5w10 syn oil. My engine has 85,002 miles as of today. I have checked the following area's:

-Tire presure= 35lbsx4
-Fuel Injector Cleaner (Notice the injectors were somewhat loud but I believe that's normal for the 2AZ-FE)
-Alignment
-K&N Drop In

Help is much appreciated!
Thanks 8)

the numbers sound low. Have you replaced your sparks+ignition wires, for 85K miles...i'd recommend it. (oh yeah, get rid of the body in the trunk, the weight reduction would be good to :=)

actually, I get better gas mileage in this car than I did in my 4cyl camry... mostly because I don't have to rev the piss out of the motor to get the car moving.

Yeah try spark plugs and wires.
Is the K&N filter clean, or is it black.
I get that when i hammer the gas too much.

BAD GASS MILEAGE.

Postby dgdtech1072 » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:31 pm

I WOULD ALSO CHECK THE PLUGS. THIS CAR DOES NOT COME EQUIPPED WITH WIRES ONLY COIL PACKS WHICH COULD ALSO HAVE GOTTEN BAD OVER TIME, BUT IF THAT WAS THE CASE YOUR ENG WOULD BE RUNNING VERY ROUGH. DONT FORGET TO ALSO CHECK YOUR THOROTLE BODY, IF THIS IS VERY DIRTY IT WILL LOWER YOU GAS MILAGE ASWELL

Wow... thats really low. I fill up my car with 91 octane and i get about 350 to 375 miles to the tank. I drive allot of freeway most its all LA trafic anyways so its like driving city.

I also have tons of mods that have added weight. Kind of strange..

Could be a nail in your tire, or it could be the gas.

wow, those are mustang gas milages. My Solara lately has been getting an average of 28 miles per gallon. I am used to getting 29-31 mpg.

I get 19 but I'm in the north. I think most gas stations switched to some sort of re-formulated gas that won't freeze and gives crappy gas mileage. It's a rumor that I haven't researched so don't take my word for it. But this might be your case Sap...Chicago and Milwaukee use the same gas.

Wow, some of you are getting bad MPG, especially for a 4cyl. My V6 MT gets at least 450 miles per tank running premium fuel. I get less MPG and power when I switch to the low grade stuff. I am really amazed at my Solara, my Integra with a AT gets about 20-22mpg, much less than my Solara. I get the feeling that overworked motors get worse MPG than a larger motor in the same car. I have heard that this is also the case with the GS300/400/430 and SC cars. The I6 supposedly gets worse MPG than the V8.

I don't know what to suggest, my Teg gets low MPG and it is definitely in top running condition.

Yea man, you seriously need a hard-core tuneup. Im not getting 450+ mpg with my V6 like made in china, but I definately get around 320-400 mpg for my 18.5 gallons. Maybe youre not filling up all the way and your needle is messed up? But if you havent changed the air filter do that and also the plugs. You should change the plugs at least every 30k miles (for the 4 cyl...unless they are platinum which i dont think they are stock)
