Gettin Belt and Pump changed this weekend!!!

Postby Sap Z » Wed Dec 14, 2005 3:07 pm

I'm getting the Timing belt and the water pump changed this weekend from the dealer for $575 plus taxes. Is tht a good deal?

1)Is there soomething i should look out for or make sure is done? is there something i can do to make sure they performed a good job?

2)Should i be driving any different to the belt is eased in?

3)Will i feel the difference in performance or gasmilage?

Any input is greatly appreciated.
thanks!

I don't know how you usely drive but when I had mine changed my old one was all stretched out and stuff. . . So with the new it felt like my car was more responsive and gas seems to be a little better too. . . I paid $450 for the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and labor

Wow, You guys are already changing your timing belts? Toyota recommends it gets changed at 90,000 miles. Thats about 2 more years for me at 15,000 miles a year. Or am I misinformed. Should it be changed before 90,000?

anywhere between 60k-90k... most dealerships say around 60k cuz they want to take your money early and while you take it in, theyll bring up that something else needs to be replaced hahaha see their revenue strategy????

I paid around $693 for mine at a gas station garage. Emergency service, my water pump blew around 50K for some reason, so sounds like a good deal by me.

Its always good to do maintenance on your engine. Timing belt is an important asset. I had my swapped out @ 60kish. Spark plugs replaced with platnium plugs. And had a Throttle body flush around 50k ish. Probably do a couple flushings soon enough. I think I had my tranny fluid flushed also. Still puring and only a small oil leak on the oil pan that was fixed. Would've costed 500ish for the fix but warrenty covered it. Whew. Engine #1 Component to keep happy for u to enjoy your driving. Arizona heat is nasty so I rather keep my car in good condition when the summer time kicks in. Rather keep up good maintenance else suffer in the long-run.

Maintenance

Postby JMSinMaryland » Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:28 am

I had my mother in laws 95 Avalon (1MZ-FE) done at a local Toyota dealership, I had the Timing Belt, Drive Belts (Vane Pump and Alternator), Water Pump and Thermostat (all recommended at 90k) changed for a total (parts and labor) of $468.81. All new, nothing reman. All Toyota dealers have a website with service specials, most dealers will match coupons so search Toyota.com for all of the local Toyota dealers (in your state if you wanted to be broad) and print up the best deal coupons and bring it to your service advisor. Don't forget service advisors are actually paid on commission based on the amount of work they tell you to do and the price you pay (told to me by a service advisor). Jon.

Don't worry man.
It your alternator belt.
Just buy some STP belt dresser [i think that what it called]
I use it when the waether is damp and my belt is squeakin'
It makes it go away.

Anyways about timin' belt.
Pops knows 2 people who can do timin' belt for me.
1 is at dealership, other is a local garage.
I think i'm takin' mine to the local garage for $500 for timin' belt, water pump and all the neccesary stuff wit it.
And the guy at the local garage gives you back you old stuff to prove that he bought OEM Toyota stuff and didn't jip you out of your money.

"Sap Z" you lucky that they will probably give you a Gen2 to drive for th time bein' :D
