Multimeters are way overkill for the amateur to moderate electrical modder. For your purposes, a Hot Wire Tester (aka Light Bulb) is all you need to solve an electrical issue. And it's always good practice to make sure your connecting neg to neg and pos to pos with a Hot Wire Tester beforehand, so you don't F anything up.
And Dat, to correct your first post, in the headlight harness there is a constant ground, a positive for low beams, and a positive for high beams.
Glad they work now, and post some pics!

multimeters help you determine exactly how much current is flowing through wires as well, whether they're 12v. or lower. not all wiring in a vehicle stays grounded or at 12 volts.

a test light is good, but if you're not careful you could end up damaging something. a fellow installer at my workplace accidentally deployed the airbag with his test light.

Yes, I already stated that.

HAHAHAHAHA! Why did he do that? The important part of that phrase, 'if you are not careful'. Most of the car is 12v, some are less sure, but mostly engine stuff. Headlights are 12v. And you can't really damage anything with a hot wire tester, except for piercing the wire you're testing would be the only way I can think of. Remember a light bulb is a resistor, it will show a current, and not blow anything, it will however complete whatever circuit you're testing, like the airbags. This is also what helped me discover the Independent Fog Lights mod. Why was he testing the airbags?

I think you expected more out of HIDs but got disappointed because of the fact that you got 8000k. 8000k supposedly produces less light or lumens (i forgot the correct terminology)... but if you had stuck with 6000k or less, youd be happier for the fact they light up the road like krazy.

but hey look at it this way... you got HIDs and ur car is damm nice lol
