ALARM PROBLEM... NEED HELP

Alright guys, now i've got myself a problem. I've have the VIPER 790XV alarm for about 4 years now. No real problems until now.

As you may know the VIPER 790 only comes with 1 transponder. And mine decided to not disarm my car anymore. It is still linked to the vehicle because when the alarm goes off it will BEEP and it shows that the door is open ETC. just won't perform any functions like unlocking, locking or remote starting etc.

I had the alarm professionally installed, and i know where the valet button is. However, i dont know how many times I'm suppose to push the darn thing to override it. I've gone through the manuel and followed the directions. I've pushed the thing from 1 - 5 times (tried them all) with the key in the ignition in the on position.

I'm assuming this really isnt a big problem, that is once i get my car to a alarm shop. However, my car cannot start with the alarm on (and the bypass is not working) so now i am stranded at home.

I've seen quite a few ALARM gurus on this forum and was hoping for some assistance. Or maybe point me to an alarm forum that can help me.

I had this happen with an Accord I had. If I disconnected it from the wire harness the car would not start. I ended up removing the fuse that fed the Alarm module and that allowed me to start and use the car. I ended up selling it that way so I don’t know what the final remedy was. Good Luck

hrm... that sounds like it might do the trick, but the only problem is finding and taking out the fuse while the alarm is going crazy.. my neighbors arn't too fond of me as it is.. heh

is the alarm fuse easy to locate ??

If you really want to know. My alarm went off around 3AM while parked in my garage. I thought someone was in my garage so I went out there with a .44 Mag Desert Eagle ready for action. Fortunately for everyone no one was there it was just my alarm freekin out. I cut the alarms speaker wire to shut the damn thing up (you can always splice this back together later) and then went to work on the fuse. My fuse was located next to the alarm module.

First step would be to reprogram the transmitter.

There should be steps in the manual for how to do it.

I know you said that it will receive signals, but if you reprogram, it'll eliminate alot of variables.

Also, remember DEI products carry a lifetime warranty

Any best buy will be able to help you. if you still cant fix it call and talk to there installer an you should be able to get one of the guys to swing by and go thru the alarm and solve the problem are at least tell you what you need to do. if the remote is bad they are not cheape, i think there around $120. Goodluck

they are human. they would have to be somewhat close to your house and it would be an off the clock type of thing, around where i live it is a common thing. but i live in da hood so you better make sure your alarm is fully operatiional at all times. haha

as an installer myself i've seen different alarm installs, and let me just say that no alarm install, REGARDLESS OF THE BRAND OF THE ALARM, are not totally identical. you still need an installer to put the alarm in (if you get it professionally installed) and THAT'S what varies. installer techniques.

the problem is that you can't start the car. right off the bat, i can tell you that you need a new LCD remote which may range from 100-140 dollars.
as far, as the car not starting, you've got the starter kill option with that alarm. (i'm sure you already knew that) however, the installer may have installed it in a manner known as "fail-safe" starter kill. most "conventional type" starter kill systems are disabled once the main power fuse is pulled from the alarm unit. with "fail-safe" starter kill systems, this is not the case. (thus, its clever name)

try pulling the fuse first. it could either be in the engine bay near the battery, but most likely will be behind the knee panel. you'll have to drop the dash to get to it. (10mm bolt and 1 screw holding the plastice knee panel; (4)10mm bolts holding the black metal piece behind that)

if you can't find the fuse, you'll have to re-wire your starter wire in order to get the car to start. ALL STARTER KILL systems have a relay wired "in-line" with the starter wire. you'll have to remove that relay and reconnect it back to normal.

last resort: TOW IT and have the alarm guys fix it.
