In Japan there are many versions avail in the earlier years. Good God Man, if you haven't seen a vid of a Soarer being driven by a pro... phew.
Think: TT Supra folks
Anyway, There were only Thousands of the 300 coupe available in US with the 5speed manual. So they are rarer than a 5spd Solara, but not as hard to get as say a SC with a hardtop (no sunroof) and velour interior. They are amazingly discounted and a terrific buy regardless of milage. The V8 in the 400 took hundreds of millions in research, is incredibly overengineered and can easily take up to 400 - 450 hp in mods before interior upgrades are suggested.
Love my 00 V6 Solara, but does not even compare with any SC in even decent condition. Just bought my 3rd SC coupe, this one with 208,888 miles and Ill be putting on a supercharger soon. Not one concern.
Bottom line, get one if you can, check carfax and the boards for advice on what to look for.
