Damaged Caliper Piston

Damaged Caliper Piston

I was replacing my front brake pads and I noticed that the rubber seal around the piston in the caliper had a huge hole. Is this serious, should I get this repaired immediately?

Safest option would be to replace it, but if you're not losing fluid and not feeling a difference in braking performance, then you can probably wait a bit.

you might only have to do the piston itself, I'm not sure if a new one will come with the seal I think you're talking about or not.

As far as I know, the piston is the only "mechanical" portion of the caliper. As long as the calpier housing isn't cracked and you can re-seat the new piston cleanly, I don't think there's a reason to do the whole thing.

If you've got any mod money, maybe you could experiment with fitting a multi-piston caliper?

Yeah would be cool.
No man all you have to so is buy a caliper seal package.
It happened to me too.
I saw a tear in my caliper seal too, and ordered a caliper seal package from the dealership; and replaced to torn rubber seal it a new one and the metal rings that hold it in place.
I suggest you use a shallow tray to hold the fluid that comes out when you take the caliper off.
Will be slippery when you take it apart.
Will be a 1 hour job i think.......
Good luck man.
PM or IM me on AOL if you need help.
I've done it, but my brakes still feel spongy... :-? [ I think it the master cylinder]

I thought we had 1 piston.
That looks like part of the caliper is broken, and the rubber is partly torn.
