MikeATL,

Did you mean the projected light on a wall or the actual headlight itself?

If the former, here's mine from about 4 feet, fogs off, not much ambient light, flash off.

Those rectangle area above the cutoff line is caused by a hole in the projector shield. Its there to light up highway signs and what not, similar to the celica projector, which gives off a UFO halo effect. You can cover this area up with alum, or dark tinted glass. therefore you'll have a clean, sharper cutoff...rather than seeing that rectangle.

That's nice to know. I'm assuming this requires opening the headlight up? Maybe I'll embark on that when I go to clear out the corner (ie, not very soon... I'm very queasy about opening up the headlight and having to reseal it back... I've had BAD experiences doing stuff like that)...

Yup, you remember correctly.

Even with that speck of stuff on the bulb, all seems to be working greatly.

I think I need to relocate the ballast though... I think I have some grounding issues. Whenever the HID's come on automatically, all the warning lights also come on for a few seconds...

Make sure your ballasts arent touching any metal, I heard thats a bad thing.

I have the xenondepot 6000K kit and I have had no focus problems at all. Mine have a very distinct cutoff line and are very focused- it looks stock.

excuse me for sounding like a lame but, what is a hid kit and why cant you just buy some brighter bulbs to inprove light output, or is that what
the kit consists of.

A HID kit is an upgrade kit that you install in your car that consists of HID (High Intensity Discharge) balasts, wire harnesses, ignitors, and Xenon capsules (bulbs).

The reason that most people decide to upgrade to HID is that it uses less power- the kit that I have is only 35W, instead of 55W that the stock halogen bulbs are. HID burns cooler than halogen bulbs do also. HID also produces a whiter, brighter light without all of the yellow cast that halogen provides. HID also puts out a lot more light (in my opinion) than halogen bulbs will do. Some people will put HID in thier car because it looks good- makes your car look like a luxury branded car.

If you just put brighter bulbs in your car, you are risking melting wiring and such, because brighter bulbs burn at a hotter temperature. Hope this helps you out.

Anyone using a proper wiring harness with their HIDs?

Imagine that we connect the HID ballast directly to where the low beam halogen bulb is connected. Some vehicles might be are able to power up HID systems normally without problems at install time. Most probably, it will not last long. The inrush load can be up to max 13 amps per ballast, compared to 7amps inrush when using halogen. The factory design parameters for headlight curcuit is 7 amps inrush and 4.5 amps continous load. So over time, connectors, multifunction switch, headlight switch, wiring and fuse holders will slowly degrade, beacuse of heat buildup. These components are very time consuming to troubleshoot becuse they are usully well hidden behind dashboards and other wiring looms. Parts easily reaches several hundered dollars. Add 8h labour to that and it becomes obvious that a $50 wiring harness is a cheap insurance.

It really depends on the rebase. From what I hear on HIDPlanet, some are prefect, and others are way off (like mine were).

I'll take some pix tonite when it gets dark. Someone is going to have to tell me how to post the pic, because every time Ive tried, it NEVER works. All in all, I am very happy with my HID.

will there be seal problem? (not properly sealed and result in condensation in the head light)

Good question. I've had mine on with no rubber gasket for about 2 weeks now with no condensation issues and its rained quite a few days here (including today). Its a really tight fit at the base but I still might seal mine up better in the next few days.

Not to change the subject (again), but is there such thing as an aftermarket bi-xenon? I heard that once the Kelvin ratings go up, the output is better but it seems dimmer unless you have bi-xenon. Is this correct? I've been looking into getting HIDs.
