Did you mean the projected light on a wall or the actual headlight itself?
If the former, here's mine from about 4 feet, fogs off, not much ambient light, flash off.
Those rectangle area above the cutoff line is caused by a hole in the projector shield. Its there to light up highway signs and what not, similar to the celica projector, which gives off a UFO halo effect. You can cover this area up with alum, or dark tinted glass. therefore you'll have a clean, sharper cutoff...rather than seeing that rectangle.
