6 months??? do u race all the time or rev up ur motor and drop it into drive? my powertrain has lasted 87K and is just as strong as when i got it.

Didn't you do a swap some time ago. (Used a Gen2 Avalon engine?)

I'm curious what failed. Perhaps you are leaning out with your current ECU setup?

I'm going to guess that the failed engine is the symptom of a problem. You have yet to figure out the source.

I have a feeling i know what is causing it but still driving me insain. my last motor went 150K before it died this one has around 5K from me on it. 40K before me.

Keep thinking it over and i have a feeling it may be oil starved in turns. It is the only thing i can think of at the moment. I would imagine that hard accel while turning at 100-130 has to have something to do with it. Sounds like a bearing again on this motor. The bottom end is what is gone again. Arrrg, love my car to death (Literally). The thing is amazing on the road for it's ability to handle but the powerplant is just crap really. *pout* So much work into this car along with money. I almost have 45K into this stupid car and i have yet to drive another car that i really love like this one. But i cannot afford to keep replacing motors every year let alone two a year..

30k for wrx sti and you have 15k to spend on other things.

I guess it's all matter of personal preference, but puting 45 grand into 10 grand car just does not make sense.

Well, first off i got the car right when they came out and new. It was not 10K then. Second there is alot of things i have done to the car. Plus wrx and sti handle like poo poo.

Yeah, there is no doubt about that. The car takes a serious beating daily. More so than it was ever designed for. However this time I am just annoyed with the motor on it going poof. Has to be something to it because it is the second time and the exact same thing again. This time it went quicker than before. Maybe there is less to it than i am thinking but just annoying me. In any case i am prolly going to get a 97 CL 3.0 or new a 2003 Civic. Who knows.

Putting 45 k into a 10 grand car with the options you'd then have to work with would be my route of choice on a car over an sti +15k anyway. Think about it, the motor swap possibilities, you could make it into a Supra, with the STI you're pretty much stuck with that engine, which granted is a great engine, but no matter what you're still stuck with 4 cylinders that are already turbod so there's only so much room for upgrade.

Basicly, even tho it doesn't matter with this topic, I'd take a solara +45k over an sti+15k ANY day without blinking.

Why not go insane and do a crazy custom engine/tranny swap already LOL. Get a Racing Grade Toyota engine in there. The 2JZ's Make a first road custom RWD Solara. Could try stuff in a engine from a Tacoma/Tundra maybe? There's an NHRA Solara with a Tundra V8 w/SC running. Not sure if its still on the tracks but I saw it online from the chassis tube skeleton build to the shell peice with the engine and everything else on on there. Time for some red bull if all else and let your solara grow some wings and snag a IS350 instead.

It's still double the price of the car. And does not AWD would handle better in North Pole LOL

It sounds like you need a computer hooked up to your OBD and other Engine Mgt. so you can see if you're running lean (which would Blow a piston, not spin a bearing) Or to see if you do indeed loose oil pressure in turns.

There has to be a reason that yer blowing motors, and not just because you push them hard, unless you're running endurance at the track.

There are several reasons. One the motor almost always lives at 4,000RPM+ all day. It gets around 150 miles on it per day and takes hard hard turns all the time on the highway. It really is pushed past its limits all the time but oh well. As for a swap cannot be done really. To much involved and would kill the car's performance (unless you want a light to light racer and that is not what i want my car for)

Key factors in the issue.
1. heat on the rear of the motor
2. Oil pan is not designed for hard turns, lack of ability to keep the oil around the pump.
3. Motor was not designed to hit redline often.


Now a question for other guys on here. What have you done for cooling in the rear of the motor to keep it from sludging? I am thinking about building a air duct system to pull air from the front of the car and have it push the air onto the rear of the motor. Should help some. Anyone looked into this? And no foward facing scoops, the mess up all the airflow and make it even worse at highspeed.
