Glow Gauge How-To

Glow Gauge How-To

Postby Mossy » Sun Jan 15, 2006 11:47 pm

I have some of the Glow Gauge for my 2000 Auto Solara.

I have searched for like 20 mins, where is the photo album with the basic install photos. Any help would be appreciated. :)

one more thing, if you havent already done so, i would replace the 194 bulbs while your back there, i put red in mine so i didnt have to look at an ugly ass green odometer with my red and blue guages, i tried the blue bulbs first but i wouldnt recommend them, the needles didnt glow very much and the odometer didnt match the rest of the guages, definatly worth puttin the red bulbs in there if you like red though, they are only like 3 bucks for 2 at autozone and you will need 5...

take out as many bulbs from the guage cluster as you can afford to!! I only took out a few and you can still see the green glow from behind!

only problem with taking out the bulbs is that you have a harder time seeing the needles, what do you mean you still see the glow from behind ?? do you mean like around the edges the light is shining threw the crack ??? cause thats the only problem that i have so far with mine but i have an idea of how im going to fix it...

Change your 194's to red, you will be sorry if you dont! If you are feeling ambitious, change the #74's in the shifter indicator while you're at it.

I solved the "glow behind" problem by using masking tape around the circumference of the gauges to prevent light leak.

Is this a aftermarket background you guys buy in just slip in behind the dash? Or are you guys just changing the bulbs out? Also if this is a background is there any for a manual solara?

its aftermarket guages that you slip over your factory ones, then most of us are changing out the green bulbs to red because it looks bad with the green odometer..and yes they do make them for the manual trans but they are definatly a whole lot harder to find... just keep your eye on ebay you may find one if your lucky...

I assume I can swap the Green bulbs to blue instead of red like you guys did? Correct me if I am wrong. :)

How many 194s will I need total to swap all of them that are in my dash.

Also is there a trick for taking them out? I will go read through the lighting topic as well. :) Thanks.

All you have to do is take the green codomn thingy off the bulb, and you will have a yellowish look.

From the picture you can't see the light leakin' from the left gauge, but it there.
You can hardly see it.
