Tire/Wheel Size

Postby dbanker » Thu Jan 16, 2003 11:16 pm

I was thinking about possibly going with a 3-5mm spacer, but would like to avoid it if I can. But if others are using this setup with sucess I'm not too worried about it. Though strut clearance looks like it could be a problem...cause it's relatively close right now.

I have a '99 SLE, does the strut clearance and tire/fender gap change with later Solara models? I doubt it does. Has anyone used spacers for their Solara or any other vehicle?

No it doesn't change at all. My friend Steve (schung07.com) has used spacers for his 19's. I personally wouldn't use any.

I agree, I've read elsewhere that advises against using spacers as well. I think I'll be fine with a 18 x 7.5 & 45mm offset. I'll contact Konig and see what they say.

How do you all think the Verdicts would look with a black Solara? I'm starting to think they may look good...either those or the Tantrum's.

Most rims including Verdicts come in Opal, darker than silver but not black. 18x7.5 w/45 offset and 225/40 18 with Eibach springs and Tokico struts. JUST DO IT. Jon.

Well I just got offered a job that I've been pursuing for a long time now so it looks like I can get some new wheels/tires and the tokico/eibach combo at the same time!! I can't wait to do it.

I've been looking at Discount Tire cause I was thinking it may be a good idea to work with someone where I live just in case something happens. However, the internet will offer slightly better prices. What do you guys think I should do? If I go with the internet I need to find a place with good prices that sells Konig wheels and Yokohama tires. Or if I can find some used wheels that are in good shape I may do that...don't know yet.

Bolt pattern 5x114.3 or 5x4.5

Offset for 18" is from 35-45. 35mm, you have to roll rear fender.
Offset for 19" is from 38-42.

Has anyone ever used a 8' wheel width on their solara w/o having to alter the fenders? I found an 18 x 8 wheel I like but am worried about rubbing based on what everyone has said.

You can use an 8" wide wheel with 225mm wide wires, and with the right offset, have no rub.

There was one guy who claimed to have 19x8.5" 235/35R19 +38 +44 staggered offset on a solara without any rub, but I never got to see it personally. I had to resort to spacers because I wanted the same offset all around to be able to do rotations.

Thanks happy_aggies. I'd love to know if it fits w/o any rubbing. Just curious, what rims did you just get?

Bringing this Topic back alive after i did the SEARCH.

Anyone out there ever put on 225/50/17 with their tokico/eibach combo??

I have hella potholes here in the bay area and dont wanna kill my rims... will this rub because of the 50's? I know for sure I can go 45, but what about 50?

I'm sure it wouldn't rub with the stock suspension. There is a chance that it would rub with Tokico/Eibach, but it would probably depend on your rim width. That size is just slightly larger in diameter than stock. With a 7" width, you'd probably be OK. If you go to 7 1/2", you'll probably get some rubbing in the rear, but only under heavy loads or if you are hitting corners really hard. I have 225/55/16's on 16x7 1/2" rims, and I got a little bit of rubbing under those conditions. That size is a little smaller in diameter than 225/50/17. A little bit of rolling of the fender lips solved the problem for me. Now that they're rolled, I will consider going to 225/50/17's and getting new wheels the next time I need new tires.

Also, I have 215/55/17's on my other car, and I don't have problems with potholes. I also live in the Bay Area.
