It all goes back to the quote, "Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races"

To support flip's claim go in a honda civic EX. I rode in my friends this weekend and it has Horrible pickup, but once it gets going its pretty fast. You need to rev the engine up to atleast 4000 before you have power and with a SOHC it takes forever to get going that fast. Honda = HP at high RPM

That's a wrong saying in the first place... Horsepower wins races.

Ever wondered why those GT/F1 races are governed by HP figures and not by torque?

Not to mention, you can create torque by using different gear ratio.

Horsepower is propotional to torque through a mathmatical equation

Torque wins races off the line because it is what gets the car moving

But a race is not won by seeing which car jumps off the line first.

First of all the old supra engine (2jz) was a RWD engine. I doubt toyota wants to put a rwd engine in the solara, especially because a lot of people buy it because its FWD. Also the 2jz does not produce 300hp while being N/A from the factory. Infact its more like 215-230 for the I6. Granted it could be easily modded but toyota wouldn't have it at 300hp

you know..they should make a solara that you can shift it from FWD to RWD as you want...sorta like how you can buy a 2WD suv but have the option to put it in 4WD or AWD. now that would be nice..although, why do i think it's almost impossible? :)
