You have to stay with synthetic once you switch.

I thought you can switch back when you get high mileage?

I was told that it's better to use regular oil when we have high mileage,
so I am thinking we should switch to regular when we reach the high mileage.

What I've Heard

Postby JMSinMaryland » Wed Feb 05, 2003 8:26 am

What I heard was that you shouldn't switch back and forth, also if you have always had dino you shouldn't switch to syn at high mileage, but it's ok to have syn at a high mileage if you've always had it. Personally Im still going to do oil changes at 3,000 miles so it's not worth the price of syn vs. benefits of syn to change it out so often. I use a syn blend right now myself with Toyota filter. Synthetic oil is not meant to be used on high mileage cars because the oil is so thin and over time little pours have developed in the engine block which cause leaks. If you run synthetic now with under 75k miles, you can keep it forever, but if you are over 75k miles don't switch. Also i don't reccomend switching back. Don't know why you would either
