I have very little electrical knowledge. Practically none.
Heres what I have: The wire(s) coming from my accessory (With Power and Ground Wire) and a switch that lights up with three prongs (Earth, Load, Supply) and A Power supply.

Correct me if I'm wrong and help out please:
I want to put the Acc ground wire to a ground, and the power to the Load Prong in the switch?
The Earth prong should be grounded to a ground, correct?
And the prong for Supply should go to a source of power (ie Fuse or Battery)

I'm not really clear on the terms "supply" and "load" as labeled on the switch, or what gets wired to what

Here's what I THINK is correct. Somone help!

I will only be doing some more interior accents on lighting.

I have 2 switches left, one will be this one for "upper" interior accents (already have one for the floors) and the last will be exterior lights, if i ever get to it.

Where would I put a fuse in my setup and is it necessary?

I drew a quick diagram of how i would do it. I used Battery as power source but you can also use your igntion constant 12volt if you have already located one.

I would ground your switch and accessories seperately, doesn't matter how much power it takes. I would do it just to be on the safe side. I have a smiliar set-up as what your looking for. Also use a inline fuse with a 10amp or 5amp if its a small item with low wattage.

Hope this diagram helps a little bit.

I know one is power and one is ground...i read that most of the time the other is "ignition." What does that mean? Can anyone help me on how I would wire this setup!?

Thanks

If you are describing that i think your talking about. Ignition wire is like a remote wire for a amp.

It only turns the accessories on when you have the key in the ignition and turned in the ON position.

But since i dont know what you are really installing and the description is very vague I can only assume.

Any more detials that you can provide???

OK, I know exactly what you are installing. Are you installed this to a aftermarket alarm or are you just installing it because it looks nice??

If you are installing into a aftermarket alarm. You will tap the 12volt(red wire) into the existing alarm light. use a Sperate ground. The 3rd wire should be Yellow or white wire. This is a memory/12volt. Kind of like your Aftermarket stereo. The Yellow wire (which in your case can be white) it keeps the memory/settings. Its keep a very low current running to it so it doesn't lose its settings like when something is cut from the current. I believe that you scanner has a button so select the style of pattern you want. The yellow/white wire can be taped into your stereo harness yellow wire or you can tap it directly to your battery. Remember that wire only keeps a low current so it can save the settings you have selected. To have it hook up this way it should look like this:

Red wire - to 12volt power source of alarm LED
Black wire - to ground
Yellow/White - to stereo harness yellow wire or battery Positive.

If you are hooking up just for the looks and not a aftermarket alarm
its the same as above except the:
Red wire - to 12volt power source you are using with inline fuse and switch.

If you have any more questions just let me know. I'm using the information you provided to give you this information. If you still have the box for the item they should tell you what wire does what.

If you want to test to see if the scanner works before you install it. Hold the Red and yellow/white wire to the Positive post of the battery and black to the Neg. post and it should turn on.

Let me know if it works. If not then the white wire is not what i've been talking about and its used for something else. Do you have a website or PDF file or even instruction manual for this??

I understand everything you mean, except when I tested it on the battery...I got nothing!

Found the PDF for installation: http://www.varad.com/techsupport/produc ... armLED.pdf

I'm hooking it up just as an accessory, not to an alarm.

Would it be effective to ground the black wire, and hook up the red and white wire to the same power source? Theoretically, I'm thinking that will work, but since it didnt work when i tested it on the battery...who knows..

EDIT: after reading the PDF, If I power it to the switch, and use a ground like the ground on the cigarette lighter, would that constitute as Ignition/Ground when engine is off? I'm confused as to what that means...

Ic how they have the device set-up.... They have it set-up a diff way then other accessories that i have installed but they use the same color cables/wires...

If you take the Red wire to your power source and your black and yellow wire to ground you should get it working...

You can ground the black and yellow together since your just using it as a accessory and not for your alarm.
