HIDs 6000k or 8000k?

Postby jhenty » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:21 pm

I understand that 6000k is actually brighter but how is the color? I want something unique so would 8000k still provide great lighting? Maybe I could get some inputs from those of you that have them. Let me know what you think of this investment. Thanks in advance.

6000K all the way! It's brighter than the 8000K but it's still just barely bright enough so I can't imagine how bad the lumens must be on the 8K. Plus it's mostly just show cars who get that, stick with 6000K and you should be fine, it looks great anyways.

Wow, I'm glad y'all like my lights :D

First off, my HIDs are H4 HID Converts Eagleye (rebbadged Hella) Ballasts 6000K. With this kit: Image

As for the corners, I've replaced them with Sylvania SilverStar's due to the cops and regulations; but they are: Image

Thanks for the compliments, check out http://plasmagarage.com/XenonHIDconversionKit.html for more info.

Hope you choose a K that you like and won't regret

Ive got 6000K hid in my car and it is great. The color is great and the light output is great. I wouldnt go with the 8000K- It reduces the light output by quite a bit, just to provide some crazy color upfront. I have gotten looks from the police with my 6000K, I think if I had the 8000, I would have gotten a ticket already.

hey "bluesolara" !! nice lights!! :D

haha..I'm glad u're becoming the next HID solaraguy!!

the truth is, I still would recommend 4300 k, the best lumens, and it's get bluer and bluer as the bulbs age, and also...very important...

PURE WHITE reflects so much better than BLUE, of course it'd be much safer...

but if u really didn't want to go that low in the color spectrum, go with 6000k, 8000k doesn't light up anything, and the blue is so ridiculous that it looks like color-coated blue halogen bulbs

just my two cents though...

I couldn't decide which K to get, so I got all of them!! 8)

and bluesolara, if u don't mind, this is an old pic of ur HIDs!! haha

Those are the D2S OEM upgrades, like the Mercedes or BMW upgrade HIDs so they're definitely different than our H4 or H11 (or 9006, etc.) bulbs which I think have more color. My 6000K is DEFINITELY not purplish, it's definitely blue and from what I've heard (and seen) the 8000K should be the purplish one. Again, keep in mind what you have linked there is the OEM upgrades, not a kit.

I strongly suggest getting the 4300K if you're looking at performance. I didn't have the choice of getting 4300K but if I were given the choice I'd be all over it. The reason you'd get HIDs is for lumens, shouldn't be for the K or the color, all about lumens and with 4300K you get the most lumens for the buck compared to 6000K which is 200+ lumens less than 4300K. Just my .02
