My next project - Exhaust

My next project - Exhaust

Postby QuickSEV6 » Mon Feb 27, 2006 3:17 am

There are way too many things out there for us Solara owners to spend our money on. I keep getting distracted. Sway bars, low temp thermostats, short shift kits, etc. Well, I'm putting my foot down and I am determined to stay focused on my next expensive project. Exhaust!
My plan is to get JP performance headers with a custom made x-pipe and a whole dual Borla system. I should be completing this by early May.
I currently have a custom y-pipe (with a crack in the flex pipe) and a magnaflow muffler with 3" plumbing. This set up is way too loud. I'm hoping that with a dual exhaust set up, it should be a lot quieter. And Borla is known to be a good product.
Check out this funny commercial:

I know some of you guys have/had Borla. Any comments?
How about you guys with dual exhaust? Was it difficult to squeeze in there?
Thanks

Well good luck on the custom exhaust.
Got a question for you....
How hard was it to make the custom Y-pipe????
Was thinkin' about it........
Might just get a straight pipe done........
If the Y-pipe thing is to hard.........

To be honest with you, I didn't do it. I had it done at a custom exhaust place here in Fort Worth. And I think it is very difficult. The reason I say that is that as soon as the guy was done, my check engine light came on. I think he ruined my O2 sensor. And soon after that, I developed a crack in the flex pipe. Even if I replace the flex pipe, it'll just crack again because the guy that designed it put it in a high stress area.
I exchanged a couple of emails with JP performance. They said they did a lot of research to get the location of the flex pipe right. The do not have a cracking problem with thier set up.
I would like to get a JP performace system because I know it will be good, but I'm willing to gamble that I can get something better with a dual system. Going to try Borla. Now I need to find another exhaust shop in DFW that'll squeeze in duals under my Solara.

i had a borla pro xs muffler up until this past weekend when i switched it for an apexi ws. I thought it sounded great but the cops didnt agree :D . From what I've heard the other borlas are quieter than the one I had though. A dual setup should also keep the sound down.

QuickSEV6 where you got your stuff done at? My cars at Alamo Motorsport in arlinton as we speak. They got good feedback and a few history with our cars as I heard and see.

Alamo is very good. He installed my AFC-II there and dyno tuned it. I actually had my exhaust installed at a mom and pop place in Azle, but most people on this board never heard of Azle so I just said Fort Worth.
I will be going back to Alamo soon. I think I'll let him install a new clutch and my LSD, BUT EXHAUST COMES FIRST.
I bought my LSD about 3 years ago and its still not installed. Its just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. So sad.
Jhenty- Thanks for the input. What happened with the police? Tickets for being too loud? I think with duals, you have two mufflers and twice the sound dampening. I don't know about exhaust physics, but it sounds good.

I don't remember. I think it was a TRD website. It is a TRD LSD.

Duals will be louder...my car is way way to loud and i have 3 mufflers. Not true duals but just having dual tailpipes makes it louder.
