Headlight retrofit project

Headlight retrofit project

Postby Elfumador » Fri Jan 27, 2006 11:06 am

Whats up guys its been a while, anyways I got a question on retrofitting, I want to use TSX projectors for my retrofit but I'm not sure if they will fit in our headlight housing. I plan to start the project next month, oh here are some pics of the donor headlights that I got from RichD978. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hey elf,

It'll definitely fit, you just need to make sure you do it very carefully. People have done it already so that's not an issue, just make sure you take apart the lens from the housing and then (while your at it, why not make it black housing? Look up the DIY on the tuts section, it's not that hard and with projectors it will look great!) get the projector and place it where you think it is the most center accordingly. Then you drill the holes, bolt and then glue back the lens, etc. (Oh yeah you have to remove the bulb protector thing before you put in the projector) and then once you put it all back together the hardest part is aiming and adjusting the beam of your projectors.

Let me know how it goes!! :o

P.S. Make sure you have the right HIDs for the retrofit (DONT USE HALOGEN!!) Hope it goes well!! :D

Was it hard to take the headlights apart? About how long did it take?

It took me about 10 minutes to do each, what i did was use a heat gun and aimed it all around the edges of the back part of the light, just keep the gun moving on high and very carefully try to wedge a paint scrapper in between, I would try to seperate it a little then use the heat gun on it , you will need to do this about 4 to 5 times. Don't forget about the plastic tabs holding the lens, the trick is not to keep to gun in one place to long and don't force its apart, you really just need patience and a soft hand. I started with prying open the top

Its suggesteed that you have a wiring harness with a relay for your HID's, here is a link to a DIY tutorial. http://jdmlyfestyle.com/hid_wiring_harness.htm

ok guys here are some more pics I used the back part of the headlight as a guide for the dremmel, after I finished cutting I used a grinding bit to smooth out the cut. I also took pics of some hardware I bought at Homedepot.
